Job Summary
We are currently seeking a senior-level Probabilistic Risk Analyst/Modeler. This position is located in the Washington, DC area.
Battelle's Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives (CBRNE) Defense business line, in our National Security business unit, is currently seeking persons with significant experience planning and executing quantitative risk assessments and/or risk-based statistical analyses. The Hazard Modeling Team within CBRNE Defense provides its customers with technical risk analyses based on mathematical modeling capabilities to inform their preparedness and response planning efforts to mitigate risk. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to make this Nation and Battelle's clients safer and better prepared.
Responsibilities
  • Lead planning and development of risk assessments focused on high consequence, low probability events.
  • Employ statistical methods and mathematical models to inform probabilistic risk assessments.
  • Serve as primary customer point of contact for new and ongoing studies.
  • Present results and write reports for customers, stakeholders, and executive level decision makers.
  • Work with program managers to ensure successful, timely, and efficient project execution.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in the fields of probabilistic risk analysis, mathematics, and statistics.
  • Lead a team of data scientists, engineers, and modelers, providing project direction and mentorship.
  • Interface with external customers to identify needs, and work with internal team members to develop ideas and proposals to expand existing capabilities.

Key Qualifications
  • Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.; Ph.D. preferred) and at least 10 years of experience in risk analysis, mathematics, mathematical modeling, statistical analysis, physics, or data science.
  • At least 5 years of experience developing models and methods that are used to inform risk assessments.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing projects with proven ability to meet project deadlines on schedule and in budget.
  • Expert knowledge of advanced statistics and probability.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret DoD clearance.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Understanding of software development best practices.
  • Experience using object-oriented programming languages.
  • Experience with advanced decision modeling and data analysis techniques, such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, or natural language processing.
  • Experience managing projects for government contracts.
  • Experience writing technical proposals.
  • Scientific publications in the risk assessment field.
  • DoD acquisition experience
  • Understanding of risk-based decision support in the DoD Chemical Biological Defense Program (CBDP) or one of its components, i.e. CPE, JSTO, JRO, Services, etc.
