Position Summary

We are seeking a Pump Mechanic/Inspector to support our aftermarket repair and upgrade business in our Corpus Christi PRO Services shop located in Corpus Christi, TX. Building on centuries of pump design experience, PRO Services provides an array of services focusing on reducing equipment total cost of ownership and increasing plant output, including condition monitoring, predictive maintenance contracts, field service, engineered upgrades, inventory management, and overhauls for pumps and other rotating equipment.

Essential Responsibilities

May include:

  • Perform complete disassembly and reassembly of centrifugal pumps, including multistage and high-energy units.
  • Conduct detailed dimensional inspections of critical components (shafts, impellers, sleeves, bearings, wear rings, casings) using precision measuring instruments.
  • Evaluate component condition and determine repair vs. replace decisions based on OEM specifications, tolerances, and operational requirements.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues independently and recommend effective repair solutions.
  • Develop detailed work scopes based on inspection findings, OEM specifications, and failure analysis, including material and repair recommendations.
  • Provide work scope and material requirements aligned with customer specifications and internal quality standards.
  • Measure, calculate, and set critical running clearances and tolerances (axial and radial) in accordance with OEM standards.
  • Perform precision assembly techniques, including proper torquing, interference fits, and use of heating/cooling methods where required.
  • Review and verify all running clearances prior to final assembly to ensure proper equipment performance.
  • Conduct final inspection of all machined parts (repaired or newly manufactured) to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with specifications.
  • Perform final inspection of assembled equipment, record inspection data, and coordinate completion of documentation prior to shipment.
  • Safely perform and lead air and hydrostatic testing of equipment; interpret results and troubleshoot any issues identified during testing.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of all inspection sheets, drawings, and related documentation.
  • Report defects in materials, rework, missed inspections, job delays, and problem areas to applicable internal and external customers.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to lower-level mechanics in disassembly, inspection, troubleshooting, and assembly practices.
  • Perform additional duties and support projects as required to meet business needs.
Position Requirements

Knowledge and Skills:

Experience: 10+ years of experience troubleshooting and repairing rotating equipment.

Competencies:

  • Extensive experience with rotating equipment, pump mechanics, and hydraulics
  • Experience repairing rotating equipment and repairing techniques

Education/Certification:

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Vocational/ Technical Degree preferred 

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to  finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and smell.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.  Must be able to wear personal protective equipment - as required by PPE Assessment. The noise level in the work environment is usually noisy as most of the activity occurs in a machine repair shop environment.
