Alongside clinical care, researchers and teachers from Metrocare's Altshuler Center for Education & Research are advancing mental health beyond Dallas County while providing critical workforce to the state.
Job Description:
JOB DESCRIPTION
The mission of Metrocare Services is to serve our neighbors with developmental or mental health challenges by helping them find lives that are meaningful and satisfying. We are an agency committed to quality gender-responsive, trauma-informed care to individuals experiencing serious mental illness, development disabilities, and co-occurring disorders. Metrocare programs focus on the issues that matter most in the lives of the children, families and adults we serve.
The Registered Nurse is responsible for coordination of medical services to persons served by the HCS Nursing. The nurse functions as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) and must work effectively with consulting physicians, other health professionals and community providers. The RN will promote health care services delivery with consideration of consumer choice. The RN will participate in the person-centered planning process and related activities that promote person centered outcomes for the consumer consistent with The Councils Outcome Based Performance Measures and HCS Standards. General tasks include participation in staffing; medical history reviews; monthly medication reviews; medical records interpretation; physician, dentist and pharmacist consultation and coordination; staff, parent, and consumer training.
The RN will occasionally monitor consumers self-administration of medication. The RN ensure that medical health care services are provided to each consumer to meet each individual need, as requested or desired, in community settings with a focus on quality of life as defined by the consumer. Emergency situations may require the RN to stay longer than a regular shift (e.g., if a consumer needs hospitalization). The RN generally will have 24 hours on call for his/ her assigned units and will occasionally take on call-services for other units as assigned.
Schedule: July - Full-Time Monday through Friday 8am-5pm manager will notify when the transition to PRN as Needed will begin
Position Pay Rate: $68,000 + (dependent on years of experience and HR Review)
Weekly On Call Stipend (after hours calls)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide necessary health services for consumers as required to meet their medical needs.
  • Provide medical/ nursing input into the IDT process as part of the comprehensive program planning for consumers
  • Procure necessary parent/ consumer input and provide staff training to adequately meet the consumers needs.
  • Assists individuals identify alternatives, potential outcomes of all alternatives, and potential barriers.
  • Continually collects and reviews feedback regarding outcome attainment from the individual and other services plan members.
  • Makes recommendations to the individual and appropriate support team members regarding the need for changes in identified individual goals and methods for achieving those changes.
  • Presents the views of the individual regarding his/her preferences, need, and interests during the planning process.
  • Assists in the development of individual goals that include measurable outcomes based on the individual needs, preferences, and interests.
  • Maintains confidentiality of individual information in forma as well as informal settings.
  • Work cooperatively with and respect all support team members and their contributions to the individuals wellbeing.
  • Understand legal requirements and liability of all written communication. Consistently uses individuals first language in all communication.
  • Assists/ facilitates the achievement of the individual outcomes as defined by the individual and support team.
  • Practices crisis prevention techniques.
  • Monitors individualized health care plans.
  • Completes RN medical evaluation for each consumer upon admission.
  • Attend required in service training throughout the year.
  • Actively participates and promotes person-centered planning and service activities consistent with The Councils Outcome Based Performance Measure.
  • Carry out identified job responsibilities in accordance with the polices of DMS.
  • Assure the following is checked: medication labels, medication supplies and storage, medication monitoring logs.
  • Monitor inventory of controlled drugs.
  • Trains, supervises, and monitors Community Living Specialists delegating the medication administration duties for a consumer. RN implements this duty in accordance with the nurse delegation rules for HCS Standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • BSN, or A. DN from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Must have 1 year of experience, preferably with DD population or in community setting.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
  • Basic math skills required.
  • Ability to work with reports and numbers.
  • Ability to calculate moderately complex figures and amounts to accurately report activities and budgets.

REASONING ABILITY:
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions.
  • Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

COMPUTER SKILLS:
  • Use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to utilize Internet for resources.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
  • Current State of Texas Driver License or if you live in another state, must be currently licensed in that state. If licensed in another state, must obtain Texas Driver License within three (3) months of employment.
  • Liability insurance required if employee will operate personal vehicle on Center property or for Center business. Must be insurable by Centers liability carrier if employee operates a Center vehicle or drives personal car on Center business. Must have an acceptable driving record.
