Position Overview:

Teachers On Demand, Inc. in partnership with Florida's Step Up For Students Scholarship Program is seeking compassionate and dedicated certified educators to work as In-Home Elementary and Middle School Tutors to support students throughout Hillsborough County. We are especially interested in SPED-certified teachers and multilingual tutors who can effectively support diverse learning needs and backgrounds. In this role, tutors provide personalized, one-on-one instruction to help students reinforce classroom learning, strengthen foundational skills, and build confidence across core subjects. Tutors are responsible for creating engaging, customized lessons tailored to each studentโ€™s unique learning style while maintaining a structured and supportive learning environment.

Tutors also play an important role in supporting studentsโ€™ social and emotional development, encouraging positive study habits, and helping students stay motivated and organized. Strong communication with families is essential to monitor progress and ensure a collaborative approach to student success. This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about education, experienced in working with diverse learners, and committed to making a meaningful impact through individualized instruction.

Requirements

Job Qualifications:

The tutor must have ONE of the following credentials:

  • A valid Florida educator's certificate
  • An adjunct teaching certificate
  • A valid professional standard teaching certificate issued by another state
  • A valid Statement of Status (SOE) issued by Educator Certification that indicates the educator is
    eligible for a Professional Certificate
  • Certification by a nationally or internationally recognized research-based training program as
    approved by the department. Examples include:
    • The Barton Reading & Spelling System
    • The Orton-Gillingham Approach
    • Wilson Reading System
    • Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE)
    • ProfessionallyCertifiedEducationTherapist(PCET)from the National Institute for Learning Development
    • Academic Language Therapy Association(ALTA)CertifiedAcademic Language Therapist
  • A valid certificate issued by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) or the American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (ABCTE)
  • A bachelor's degree or a graduate degree in the subject area of instruction*
    - SUFS will request transcripts if the degree is not subject-area specific
  • An official FTCE score report indicating a passing score on a Florida subject area exam, not more than 10 years old*
  • A passing score report that is not more than 10 years old, above the intermediate level, on both the oral and written exams for a foreign language subject area (excluding French, German, or Spanish) administered by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language (ACTFL)*
  • A form provided by a Florida school district and signed by the school district, indicating there is no standardized exam in the subject area, but the person has attained the essential subject matter competencies and subject area specialization requirements*
  • For a subject requiring a masterโ€™s or higher degree (i.e., Reading), a score report indicating a passing score on a Florida subject area exam (not more than 10 years old) AND a valid Statement of Status of Eligibility (SOE) issued by Educator Certification that indicates the educator is eligible for a Temporary or Professional Certificate*

Essential Duties:

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and parents/guardians to plan and deliver targeted instructional support that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of assigned students.
  • Provide in-home one-on-one tutoring sessions consistently and reliably at the designated times and locations.
  • Assist in delivering instructional content and strategies aligned with the students' school curriculum to help students meet established learning objectives.
  • Prepare for tutoring sessions with appropriate materials and resources, and provide written or verbal updates on planning and progress when requested.
  • Support the learning process by helping students understand assignments, and clarifying lesson objectives.
  • Adjust instruction based on student academic needs, developmental levels, and feedback from parents.
  • Use engaging methods, tools, and resources to motivate students and support their progress.
  • Ensure a safe and respectful tutoring environment.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and communication as directed.
  • Be available to communicate with students, teachers, and families regarding academic progress or concerns, as needed and appropriate.
  • Build positive, respectful relationships with students and families to support learning and collaboration.
  • Reflect on tutoring practices and apply feedback to improve effectiveness and student outcomes.
