Description
Do you believe the right book can spark a lifelong love of learning? Merritt Academy is seeking an enthusiastic and organized School Librarian who can bring stories to life, inspire curious readers, and create a welcoming library environment for students from preschool through eighth grade.
The School Librarian will plan and lead engaging, age-appropriate library classes that encourage literacy, curiosity, research skills, and a genuine enjoyment of reading. Working with students across a wide range of ages, the Librarian will introduce young children to the magic of stories while helping older students grow into thoughtful, confident, and independent readers.
The Librarian will also oversee the daily care and organization of the school library, ensuring that its collections and spaces remain inviting, relevant, and accessible to students and teachers.
Other responsibilities include:
  • Maintain library spaces, shelves, bulletin boards, and walls
  • Update library spaces to reflect library events, lessons, campaigns, and Merritt hallmarks
  • Oversee library resources for students, staff, and parents
  • Catalog the collections
  • Assist in the selection of instructional materials for the reading curriculum in grades PreK-8th
  • Manage the circulation desk, including check-outs, renewals and maintenance of patron records
  • Plan and manage 2 book fairs a year.
  • Maintain an inventory of materials

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelors' degree in Library Science preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience working in education
  • Knowledge of Library Science skills
  • Experience in computer technology including MS Office Suite
  • Ability to develop effective relationships with students and parents
  • Read, write, and communicate effectively in English
  • Pass pre-employment screenings
