A day in the life of Counsel, DTC & Privacy at VF looks a little like this.
The primary responsibility of Counsel, DTC & Privacy is to provide strategic, practical, and business-focused legal support across VF's direct-to-consumer, technology, privacy, marketing, and retail operations. You will provide hands-on legal support to VF's Digital Technology, Digital Commerce, Marketing, Retail Leasing, Human Resources, Indirect Procurement, Tax, Treasury, Supply Chain, and other business functions across the Americas and globally. The Counsel, DTC & Privacy position reports to the Senior Counsel, Digital & Privacy.

  • Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a high volume of complex commercial contracts and other legal documents.
  • Advise business teams on technology, artificial intelligence, privacy, consumer protection, email marketing, SMS/mobile marketing, TCPA, and related regulatory matters.
  • Serve as a trusted legal advisor by delivering timely, practical, and business-focused legal guidance to stakeholders across multiple functions.
  • Provide rapid, practical legal guidance on day-to-day business issues and escalations, enabling stakeholders to make informed decisions while appropriately managing legal risk.
  • Manage and advise on regulatory strategy and compliance, including state-specific guidance and emerging legal developments.
  • Identify and manage legal risks, including developing and implementing risk mitigation strategies.
  • Manage outside counsel on litigation, regulatory, privacy, commercial, and retail leasing matters.
  • Support technology, privacy, consumer, commercial, and regulatory litigation matters, including litigation strategy, discovery, settlement discussions, and case management.
  • Advise and support VF's Retail Leasing function on lease negotiations, disputes, landlord matters, and related real estate issues.
  • Advise on and support the resolution of consumer and customer complaints, including matters involving privacy, marketing, e-commerce, loyalty programs, warranty claims, accessibility concerns, promotional offers, and other consumer-facing issues.
  • Monitor and communicate developments in technology, AI, privacy, consumer protection, marketing, telecommunications, and TCPA-related laws impacting VF's business.

What do you need to succeed?
We all have unique skills that we bring to work and celebrate every day. For this role, there are foundation skills you'll need to succeed and excel, including a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and admission to a state bar in good standing.
The foundation skills you will need in this position are:
  • 4 - 8+ years of relevant legal experience, including significant experience in technology transactions, privacy, digital marketing, commercial contracting, regulatory compliance, litigation management, consumer protection, TCPA compliance, or related practice areas.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex legal matters, provide practical risk-based advice, and exercise sound judgment in a fast-paced business environment.
  • Proficiency in managing complex legal projects, transactions, and stakeholder relationships.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization through effective communication, persuasion, empathy, and diplomacy.
  • Highly self-motivated and responsive to the needs of colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Strong team player with a collaborative, business-oriented mindset.

Hiring Range:
$124,000.00 USD - $155,000.00 USD annually
Incentive Potential: This position is eligible for additional compensation awards that may include an annual incentive plan, sales incentive, or commission potential. Specific details of the additional compensation eligibility for this position will be provided during the recruiting and interview process.
