Job description

Description
The Yale University School of Art invites applications from throughout the world for an assistant professor tenure track faculty appointment in the area of Painting and Printmaking to begin July 1, 2026. The school serves students from all over the country and world. Candidates must hold an MFA or equivalent degree.
A fully engaged presence on campus is required as well as a willingness to actively participate in service and collaboratively shape the future of the Painting/Printmaking area at the School of Art. The faculty member will also actively serve undergraduate art majors by designing new courses and collaborating with the Director of Undergraduate Studies. The faculty member will initially assist the Director of Graduate Studies on student facing communication and coordination and eventually be among a group of faculty expected to rotate the department's leadership.
The successful candidate will teach both graduate and undergraduate level courses, advise graduate and undergraduate students, oversee master's theses, participate in critique sessions, mentor students, serve on School and University committees, and actively contribute to and participate in the school's vibrant co-curricular programming.
Qualifications
We seek a working artist with a primary focus on painting and/or printmaking, or their expanded categories. The candidate should have an active and engaged exhibition record, as well as a strong technical background and conceptual grounding in the medium and history of painting. A minimum of 3 years college-level teaching and service experience, and an ongoing, excellent, and dynamic art practice is required. A knowledge of the discourses around contemporary art and an ability to address works across disciplines are necessary.
