PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing printing and converting equipment as well as supporting facility systems to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations. This role is critical to minimizing downtime, improving equipment reliability, and supporting production throughput across all converting and printing assets.
The Maintenance Technician partners closely with Operations, Production, teams to sustain optimal machine performance and maintain overall facility infrastructure.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues on printing and converting machinery.
• Support equipment such as flexographic presses, offset presses, rewinders, slitters, die cutters, folder-gluers, embossers, and packaging lines.
• Respond to production downtime calls and restore equipment to operational status as quickly and safely as possible.
• Work collaboratively with machine operators/leads/supervisors to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) on all plant production equipment.
• Complete lubrication, calibration, adjustments, and component replacements per OEM and plant standards.
• Assist in developing and improving PM programs to drive uptime and equipment longevity.
• Utilize maintenance tracking systems to document work orders and maintenance history.
• Perform routine maintenance on facility infrastructure including electrical systems, compressed air, HVAC, plumbing, lighting, and building structures.
• Support installation, relocation, and commissioning of new or upgraded equipment.
• Maintain housekeeping standards in maintenance areas and on the production floor.
Identify opportunities to improve machine efficiency, safety, and maintenance processes.
• Assist with equipment changeovers, setups, and process improvements when needed.
• Utilize technology and diagnostic tools to enhance troubleshooting accuracy and operational performance.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: NO
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
Working knowledge of industrial manufacturing equipment, preferably within paper converting, packaging, tissue, or printing environments.
• Understanding of mechanical drives, gearboxes, bearings, rollers, and web handling systems.
• Knowledge of electrical systems including motors, VFDs, sensors, and basic PLC troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with pneumatics, hydraulics, and compressed air systems.
• General facility maintenance knowledge; certifications in electrical, HVAC, or plumbing preferred.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and Continuous Improvement principles.
• Experience with Preventive and Predictive Maintenance methodologies.
• Familiarity with CMMS systems for work order tracking and documentation.
• Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication.
• Critical thinking and sound decision-making ability under pressure.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced production environment.
• Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional teams.
