Printing Intern information

What is a printing intern?

Printing Interns are entry-level professionals who assist in various tasks related to the printing process in print shops, publishing houses, or similar organizations. They typically support the setup and operation of printing equipment, help with quality control, prepare materials, and learn about different printing techniques. The role is designed to provide hands-on experience in the printing industry and is often part of an educational or vocational program. Printing Interns work under the supervision of experienced staff and gain valuable skills for future careers in printing or graphic production.

What kinds of hands-on projects and responsibilities can a printing intern expect during their internship?

As a Printing Intern, you can expect to be involved in a variety of hands-on tasks such as assisting with pre-press preparation, operating basic printing equipment under supervision, and helping with quality checks on finished products. Interns often support experienced staff in setting up print jobs, managing materials, and troubleshooting issues that arise during production. This role provides valuable exposure to the workflow of a print shop and helps interns develop practical skills in both traditional and digital printing processes. Collaboration with designers and production teams is common, offering insights into the full lifecycle of print projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a printing intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Printing Intern, you need basic knowledge of printing processes, keen attention to detail, and a willingness to learn, often supported by relevant coursework or vocational training. Familiarity with printing software (such as Adobe Creative Suite), digital presses, and finishing equipment is typically expected. Strong communication, teamwork, and time management skills help you adapt quickly and collaborate effectively in a fast-paced environment. These skills ensure print jobs are completed accurately, efficiently, and to client specifications, building a solid foundation for a future career in printing.

As an Emerging Leader Program role, this position carries meaningful responsibility for both content execution and people leadership. This role leads assigned summer communications staff and collaborates across departments to move communication projects forward.

How You’ll Lead

o Coordinate deadlines, drafts, approvals, revisions, and final delivery for assigned communication projects.

Summer Staff and Intern Leadership

o Lead, schedule, coach, and support assigned summer photo/video staff and social media interns.

o Set expectations and provide feedback on content capture, quality, turnaround times, organization, professionalism, and brand standards.

o Create a positive, high-accountability team culture that values creativity, humility, excellence, and service.

Social Media and Digital Content

o Manage day-to-day posting and execution for assigned SpringHill social media channels.

o Lead the planning and coordination of social content during summer camp, retreats, events, recruiting seasons, and other key ministry moments.

o Monitor social media engagement, comments, messages, and trends, escalating questions or concerns when needed.

o Track basic social media performance and recommend adjustments to improve reach, engagement, clarity, and audience connection.

Copywriting and Storytelling

o Write clear, brand-aligned copy and stories for social media, email, web, print, campaigns, and internal communications.

o Edit and proof communication pieces for grammar, tone, clarity, accuracy, and consistency.

o Translate program details into guest-friendly messaging that is simple, warm, and action-oriented.

o Execute assigned pieces of marketing and communication campaigns in alignment with SpringHill’s promotional calendar.

Content Capture and Organization

o Coordinate photo, video, and story capture across camp programs, retreats, events, and ministry moments.

o Direct summer content staff toward the highest-priority stories, shots, and moments needed for marketing and communication.

o Maintain organized photo, video, and written content libraries for current and future use.

o Partner with the Marketing Manager to identify content needs for campaigns, fundraising, recruitment, and year-round storytelling.

Brand Stewardship

o Apply SpringHill’s brand voice, visual identity, and messaging standards across assigned projects.

o Coach summer staff and internal partners toward consistent tone, quality, formatting, and guest-facing language.

Requirements:

How You’ll Succeed

o SpringHill’s social media presence is active, engaging, mission-centered, and brand-aligned.

o Summer photo/video staff and social media interns are trained, supported, and producing useful, high-quality content.

o Written communication is clear, timely, accurate, and effective.

o Departments across SpringHill experience strong communication support, proactive collaboration, and dependable follow-through.

o The Communications Coordinator grows in writing, leadership, creative direction, organizational influence, and ministry leadership throughout the ELP experience.

What We Are Looking For

o Commitment to the mission and ministry philosophy of SpringHill.

o Participation in SpringHill’s Emerging Leader Program connected to Wheaton College’s Graduate Degree Program.

o Strong writing, editing, storytelling, social media, and basic visual content instincts.

o Creative eye for content, photography, video, layout, and brand presentation.

o Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple deadlines, voices, and priorities at once.

o Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, social scheduling tools, email platforms, website editing, photography, or video preferred.

o Previous camp, ministry, marketing, communications, journalism, leadership, or content creation experience preferred.

This role may include moving around camp property to capture content during events, programs, and seasonal operations.
