Job description

Maintenance Technician

Location: Westfield, MA 01085

Employment Type: Full-Time

Shift: 1st Shift

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM

Pay: $30.00–$37.00 per hour

Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician to support the operation, maintenance, and repair of CNC manufacturing equipment and facility systems. This position will troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues, perform preventive maintenance, minimize equipment downtime, and help maintain a safe, clean, and efficient production environment.

This is a first-shift, Monday–Friday opportunity in a precision manufacturing facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on CNC manufacturing equipment.

  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control-system issues.

  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and perform repairs to minimize production downtime.

  • Conduct daily machine inspections, including checking and maintaining fluid levels.

  • Coordinate maintenance activities with machine operators to reduce interruptions to production.

  • Maintain tools, equipment, maintenance records, and documentation.

  • Perform basic facility maintenance, including painting, cleaning, and general repairs.

  • Maintain shop cleanliness and support a safe working environment.

  • Safely handle cutting fluids, chemicals, and hazardous materials while following PPE requirements.

  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and overhead cranes to move equipment and materials.

  • Identify potential equipment problems before failures occur and recommend corrective actions.

  • Read machine manuals, prints, schematics, and technical documentation to diagnose equipment issues.

  • Travel between the Westfield and Southwick facilities as needed.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing CNC machine tools.

  • Working knowledge of one or more of the following CNC brands:

    • Niigata

    • Matsuura

    • Nakamura

    • Mazak

    • Haas

    • Yasda

  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.

  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Knowledge of lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, PPE requirements, and safe handling of industrial chemicals.

  • Forklift experience preferred.

  • Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills.

Work Environment

This position is performed in a precision manufacturing environment with exposure to:

  • CNC machinery and moving equipment

  • Machine oils and cutting fluids

  • Metal chips and sharp edges

  • Noise, dust, mist, and industrial fumes

  • Forklift traffic and overhead cranes

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, climb, and work inside CNC machines for extended periods.

  • Ability to read machine manuals, schematics, prints, and technical documentation.

  • Ability to perform physical maintenance tasks throughout the workday.
