The Opportunity

For the past five years Seaworthy has primarily been a solo adventure but it’s time to

add an official First Mate to the crew. I’m looking for a talented and dedicated

craftsperson with a passion for hand-making timeless artifacts. Currently, the product

line is based around premium products for the home: specifically artisan-quality

drinkware sets, cocktail making tools and related products. The materials you’ll be

working with range from metal and wood to glass and leather.

Although the website is not up-to-date, you can get a sense of the products at

------------

This person also needs to help me run the ship - someone who can raise the bar on

quality and efficiency through smarts and creativity. They will run the workshop and

eventually a crew of craftspeople. They’ll help to build a healthy, creative, inspiring

workplace.

It’s early in the development of the business and I’m looking for someone to be an

integral part in bringing the vision life. You won't be a cog in a machine; you'll be

central to how our products get made and how the company evolves.

Seaworthy’s flagship workshop & design office is located in the historic maritime

district of Ballard.

- Dominick Montalbano / Captain Seaworthy

Responsibilities

• Fabricate our products: an expanding & evolving bar tool product line, spirit sets,

custom projects, new product lines, etc.

• Work with traditional wood & metal shop tools as well as CNC routers, laser

etchers & cutters, and 3D printers

• Develop & refine production processes & tooling to continuously raise product

quality & efficiency

• Collaborate on product design when adjustments can unlock better quality,

consistency, or manufacturability

• Monitor & maintain exceptionally high quality-control standards

• Package & Ship products

• Keep the shop ship-shape: efficient, stocked, maintained & running smoothly

• Work closely with the owner on production planning, scheduling, & priorities

• Grow into supervising & mentoring additional shop production staff as we

expand

Requirements

• Shop Experience - you're capable of furniture quality woodworking & metal

working

• Problem Solving Ability - you evaluate trade-offs & find the optimal path…

whether that means a new jig, a different machine, or revisiting the product

design itself

• Familiarity w/ CNC 3D Routing - operating a CNC & creating tool paths is a

major plus

• Design & Fabrication - of custom jigs & tools for production

• Extremely Detail-Oriented - quality isn't negotiable

• Organized & Steady Under Pressure - even when juggling multiple tasks

• A Self-Starter - anticipate what needs to be done & do it

Compensation

Pay will be based on experience and the market rate of related skillsets in the Seattle

area. My highest priority is to find the right person and build the role around them.

Given that, I do not have a fixed pay rate for this position.

This is intended to be a part-time position leading to full-time.
