Job description

We are seeking a creative, detail-oriented Graphic Designer to join our print shop team in New York City. This is a hands-on design position for someone who enjoys taking a project from a customer's initial idea through design, production, and a finished printed product. The ideal candidate combines strong graphic design skills with excellent communication and customer service abilities. You'll work directly with customers to understand their vision, recommend creative solutions, prepare production-ready artwork, and help ensure every project meets our standards for quality and accuracy.

Graphic Designer Daily Responsibilities:
  • Work directly with customers to understand their design, printing, and branding needs.
  • Create and modify designs for business cards, flyers, brochures, posters, banners, signage, promotional materials, and other print products.
  • Translate customer ideas and rough concepts into professional, print-ready designs.
  • Prepare, resize, format, and proof artwork for print production.
  • Review customer-supplied files for resolution, dimensions, bleed, color, and other production requirements.
  • Make revisions based on customer feedback while maintaining design quality and brand consistency.
  • Communicate clearly with customers regarding design options, proofs, revisions, specifications, and project timelines.
  • Edit and enhance photography and other visual assets as needed.
  • Collaborate with print production staff to ensure designs are produced accurately.
  • Manage multiple customer projects and deadlines in a fast-paced print shop environment.
  • Maintain organized digital files and customer artwork.
  • Provide a welcoming, professional customer experience from initial consultation through project completion.
Graphic Designer Preferred Skills:
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, including relevant design applications such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Lightroom for photo editing and image enhancement.
  • Proficiency with Canva and the ability to create and modify professional designs efficiently.
  • Strong understanding of graphic design fundamentals, including typography, layout, composition, color, and branding.
  • Understanding of print-production concepts such as CMYK, RGB, resolution, bleed, trim, and file preparation.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to proof designs for accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfortable speaking directly with customers and translating their ideas into practical design solutions.
  • Ability to accept feedback and make revisions efficiently.
  • Ability to prioritize projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

We’re looking for more than someone who can create attractive graphics. The right candidate understands that great design begins with understanding the customer. You should be comfortable sitting down with a customer, asking the right questions, explaining creative options, and helping them turn an idea into a finished product they're excited to use. Patience, professionalism, creativity, and clear communication are just as important in this position as technical design ability.

Experience working in a print shop, sign shop, copy center, marketing agency, or other customer-facing design environment is preferred, but we welcome candidates with a strong portfolio and the right combination of technical and interpersonal skills. If you're a talented designer who enjoys working with people and takes pride in producing high-quality work, we'd like to hear from you.

We are committed to maintaining an inclusive workplace and providing equal employment opportunities to qualified applicants. Employment decisions are made without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.
