Senior Project Manager

ICON

Austin, TX

Full-time

Re-posted 11 days ago

Job description

ICON is seeking Senior Project Managers to own the full design-build lifecycle for complex construction projects -- driving outcomes that demonstrate what is possible when 3D printing technology meets rigorous project execution.

ICON is rapidly growing as a full-service design-build general contractor serving clients across residential, commercial, institutional, and government sectors, weaving ICON's industry leading technology with traditional building systems to deliver best-in-class projects. Project Managers are the engine behind that expansion. You will not just manage projects -- you will own them. From pre-award planning and design coordination through construction execution and final commissioning, you will be the driving force behind project success across ICON's growing portfolio. The ideal candidate brings deep design-build expertise, thrives in complex multi-stakeholder environments, and operates with the independence and judgment to deliver predictable, high-quality results.

You will work closely with ICON's Design, Purchasing, Print Operations, and Construction teams, as well as external partners including clients, architects, engineers, trade partners, permitting agencies, and inspectors. This position is based in Austin, TX with travel to project sites across the U.S and will report to the Division President of ICON Build.

This posting represents multiple openings across ICON's project portfolio. Final role assignment -- by sector and project type -- will be based on each candidate's background and experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact with clients and key stakeholders from pre-contract award through project closeout, maintaining clear and professional communication throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Manage all phases of the project lifecycle from pre-construction planning through commissioning, ensuring alignment with contract requirements, design intent, quality standards, and applicable codes and regulations.
  • Lead pre-construction planning activities including design development, value engineering, cost estimating, risk management, and constructability reviews.
  • Coordinate with ICON's Design, Purchasing, Print/Construction, and external consultants to develop complete design packages, specifications, and cost estimates that support accurate budgets across multiple building products.
  • Develop and own the project schedule, establishing milestones and holding all project team members accountable for task execution.
  • Build, monitor, and manage project budgets; oversee all financial obligations including pay applications, change orders, purchase orders, and invoice management to meet profitability targets.
  • Prepare and deliver regular project updates and formal reporting to clients and ICON's executive leadership.
  • Lead procurement and subcontracting efforts: develop detailed scopes of work, RFPs, and subcontracts to ensure budget constraints are met and expectations are clearly defined for successful execution.
  • Review all site and construction drawings for accuracy and coordination, providing clear and concise feedback to improve documentation quality.
  • Lead full coordination of site activities among trade partners, suppliers, ICON construction staff, and inspectors to ensure safety, quality, and project standards are met.
  • Collaborate with ICON's Print Operations team to efficiently deliver 3D-printed building systems within the technical and contractual constraints of each project.
  • Implement and enforce quality control and safety plans aligned with project requirements and ICON's internal standards; regularly review trade partner work and require corrections when work does not meet expectations.
  • Operate cross-functionally across the organization, maintaining awareness of and supporting efforts in Business Development and Strategic R&D as relevant to active projects.
  • Utilize ICON's project management platforms and reporting tools in accordance with ICON standard operating procedures to ensure transparency and efficiency throughout the project.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10+ years of progressive experience managing large-scale construction projects, including design-build delivery.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
  • Experience successfully managing the full lifecycle of complex construction projects across residential, commercial, or institutional sectors.
  • Diverse background that includes specialized skills across disciplines such as engineering, architecture, construction management, or purchasing.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with construction project management software tools (e.g., Procore, Smartsheet, Primavera P6, Bluebeam).
  • Proven ability to develop and manage project budgets, schedules, and formal client and stakeholder reporting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks, operate with independence and autonomy, and remain composed under pressure.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as required.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Professional Engineer (PE), Registered Architect (RA), General Contractor License, PMP, CCM (Certified Construction Manager), or CPC (Certified Professional Constructor) certification.
  • Experience on MILCON, USACE- or NAVFAC-administered, or other federal and government construction projects (for MILCON Project Manager assignment)
  • Working knowledge of UFC (Unified Facilities Criteria), USACE/NAVFAC design and construction standards, FAR/DFARS procurement requirements, or EM 385-1-1 safety standards (for MILCON Project Manager assignment).
  • Experience incorporating advanced or innovative construction technologies in construction.
  • A high level of practical, hands-on construction knowledge across multiple building types and delivery methods.
