Position Summary

The Lead Packer is an essential member of the web press crew, responsible for removing finished printed products from the press, packaging materials according to customer specifications, maintaining product quality, and supporting press operations during production, make-readies, and web breaks.


Key Responsibilities

  • Remove finished printed products from the press and package them according to customer specifications.
  • Set and verify batch and layer counts based on job requirements.
  • Inspect product quality and notify the press operator of any issues.
  • Assist with press wash-ups, make-readies, and web-ups.
  • Support press operations by setting delivery tables and maintaining efficient product flow.
  • Assist with setup of plates, dies, pattern gluers, plows, slitters, and other inline finishing equipment.
  • Cross-train with the Feeder position to build knowledge of press operations.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on assigned presses.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Accurately report production results and work overtime as needed.
  • Follow company policies, quality standards, and safety procedures.


Requirements

Qualifications

  • Previous manufacturing or printing experience preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Reliable attendance and teamwork.


Physical Requirements

  • Frequently lift 30-65 pounds.
  • Carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Push/pull loaded hand lift trucks up to 2,200 pounds.
  • Stand and walk for up to 12-hour shifts.
  • Work in warm, humid, dusty environments and around controlled non-toxic chemical mists or vapors.
