Metiri is a trusted analytical lab delivering environmental testing, and we're looking for a Login Laboratory Assistant to join our team!


The Login Laboratory Assistant is the first quality checkpoint for client samples arriving at our laboratory. This role will receive, log, and label environmental samples (soil, water, air) and route work to analytical departments, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and driving the company's mission to promote environmental health and sustainability.

Requirements

Sample Management

  • Receive, unpack, and inspect incoming environmental samples for custody seals, temperature compliance, damage, and proper preservation status.
  • Verify chain-of-custody (COC) documentation against physical samples, reconcile discrepancies, and document non-conformances (i.e. short holds, broken containers, wrong preservatives).
  • Maintain continuous chain-of-custody following established protocols, preparing and delivering samples to the appropriate analytical department.
  • Assist with sample storage, rotations, and proper disposal following regulatory guidelines.

Data Entry, Labeling, & Storage

  • Create electronic work orders/projects and accurately enter critical data, such as sample ID, test codes, methods, matrices, turnaround time (TAT), and client billing info.ย 
  • Capture field data (sample times, preservatives, locations, sampler) and special instructions.ย 
  • Barcode, label, and store samples in designated environmental conditions (i.e. specific refrigerators or freezers) to maintain sample integrity.

Logistics and Record Keeping:ย 

  • Generate login paperwork and job packets, file COCs and temperature records, and support internal and external audits.
  • Receive and stock sample control supplies, prepare sample kits, and coordinate shipments.

Quality & Compliance:ย 

  • Adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety guidelines, and environmental regulations for handling and transporting samples and hazardous waste.
  • Proactively report status updates and potential delays to relevant teams or members of leadership.

Perform all other duties as assigned.


Education:ย 

High School Diploma or equivalent


Experience/Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a laboratory, warehouse/receiving, healthcare, or similar high-accuracy data entry role preferred.
  • Basic to intermediate computer literacy required (i.e. barcode scanners, label printers, Microsoft Office); familiarity with data entry or laboratory information management systems (LIMS) preferred.ย 

License/Certification:

Valid driver's license, with an excellent driving record for the past 3 years.ย 


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong attention to detail and exceptional organization skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team to identify and resolve problems, gather and analyze information, and meet time-sensitive productivity standards.
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle and navigate routine hazards of the road.
  • Professional communication skills, including: reading and interpreting written information; writing clearly and legibly, such as when preparing forms/logs/reports; listening to understand directives, feedback, or complex issues; speaking clearly and persuasively to share information, resolve customer requests, ask follow-up questions, or manage difficult conversations.ย 

Work environment:ย 

  • Laboratory environment with routine exposure to chemicals and testing equipment.
  • Requires adherence to safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).


Physical demands:

  • Frequent standing, walking, and lifting supplies, equipment, or materials up to 50lbs.
  • Repetitive use of hands/fingers and fine motor skills for typing, grasping, and operating laboratory equipment.
  • Close visual acuity to view computer monitors, read/prepare data, and determine size/color/shape.ย
