Description

A.T. Still University's Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health (ATSU-ASDOH) is seeking a full-time, non-exempt Digital Dental Lab Technician on the Mesa, Arizona campus. The Digital Dental Lab Technician supports the fabrication and delivery of digitally designed dental prosthetics, appliances, and models within the dental school's academic laboratory. Under the supervision of the Digital Dental Lab Manager, this role is responsible for operating CAD/CAM equipment, preparing digital files, post-processing 3D printed and milled items, and maintaining lab systems. The technician ensures high-quality output, supports student and faculty digital learning, and helps advance the integration of digital workflows into clinical and preclinical education.


Duties & Responsibilities:


Digital Case Management and Production

  • Process incoming digital files (STLs) for design, milling, or 3D printing.
  • Fabricate crowns, bridges, splints, surgical guides, study models, and other prostheses using CAD/CAM workflows.
  • Perform post-processing, finishing, and polishing of printed and milled restorations and appliances.
  • Verify and maintain quality control of all lab-produced items.

Equipment Operation and Maintenance

  • Operate digital dental equipment including intraoral scanners, desktop scanners, design software (e.g., 3Shape, Exocad), milling units, 3D printers, and curing ovens.
  • Perform daily maintenance and calibration of lab equipment and report malfunctions or service needs to the Lab Manager.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment according to lab protocols and infection control standards.

Software Use and Design Support

  • Assist with basic CAD design of restorations and guides, or preparation of files for external or internal design.
  • Navigate digital dental software for reviewing, modifying, and exporting design files.
  • Collaborate with the Lab Manager on design updates and case troubleshooting.

Academic and Clinical Support

  • Assist students and faculty in submitting digital cases and understanding lab workflows.
  • Support educational demonstrations, open lab hours, and digital dentistry workshops as needed.
  • Help manage case logs, workflows, and digital file organization to support timely turnaround.

Inventory and Materials Handling

  • Monitor lab materials such as resin, burs, blocks, and other consumables used in fabrication.
  • Assist with receiving, storing, and tracking supplies and materials.
  • Follow safety protocols for handling and disposing of materials and chemicals.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of experience in a dental laboratory, with at least 1 year in digital workflows.
  • Proficiency in using CAD/CAM software and equipment (e.g., 3Shape, Exocad, CEREC,Roland, Asiga, Formlabs).
  • Strong technical skills and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with infection control, OSHA, and HIPAA regulations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of dental laboratory technology training or equivalent certification.
  • CDT (Certified Dental Technician) or training in digital dental technology.
  • Experience working in an academic or healthcare environment.
  • Familiarity with EHR or case management systems (e.g., AxiUm).
