This position works out of our Ottawa, Ontario location in the Point of Care, Diagnostics division. We're empowering smarter medical and economic decision making to help transform the way people manage their health at all stages of life. As a member of the Print Manufacturing Engineering team, you will fulfill the role of a Print Room Intermediate Technician.

Position Overview

Your primary responsibility in this role will be to act as a part of the team, working safely in a cleanroom environment and supporting manufacturing operations to ensure optimal throughput, yield, and quality of chips and plastic components produced using complex fabrication equipment and processes. It is expected as a Print Room Intermediate Technician that you have knowledge and experience in a manufacturing environment and have the capability to problem-solve and adjust to shifting priorities. The candidate will be expected to assist the Operations teams as needed based on processing priorities and will report directly into the Print Engineering Supervisor.

What You'll Do

  • Monitor critical process parameters, critical-to-quality attributes, process and product yield.
  • Develop, document and implement reaction schemes to manage equipment and process excursions and trends.
  • Assist with identification, development and implementation of process capability improvements.
  • Assist or lead investigations into product and process problems, including root cause analysis.
  • Execute engineering experiments in support of process characterizations.
  • Assist in or lead equipment/process characterization projects.
  • Work independently in accordance with standard practices, policies, and precedents; seek direction when needed.
  • Plan/organize work/project assignments of a substantial variety and complexity. Maintain schedule for key work packages. Establish priorities for individual projects and assignments. Record data accurately and keep task logs.
  • Communicate ideas and suggestions for improving processes; actively participate in implementing solutions. Update associated documentation, as necessary.
  • Understand and comply with Quality and EH&S policies, procedures, and guidelines. Safeguard the environment and facilitate a safe and healthy workplace culture.
  • Consistently apply Quality Systems requirements and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing with operators, equipment technologists, engineers and group members of related areas and managers.

Required Qualifications

  • College Diploma in a technical field (2- or 3-year program) or equivalent work experience
  • 1 to 3 years relevant work experience in a technical role, preferred
  • Ability to determine required analysis to make practical, objective decisions about the best solutions to problems
  • Competent in data entry and utilizing the software to support assigned tasks. Computer skills using MS-Office and Traksuite applications.
  • Highly motivated to work independently and as a member of a team and department.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills; able to deal effectively with people on all organizational levels and work in a team environment across departments
  • Familiarity with GMP and LEAN Six Sigma manufacturing principles, an asset.
  • Has the ability to plan, organize and prioritize the Operations Support work and Engineering tasks to meet the established schedule.
  • Familiarity with any of the following is an asset: wafer fabrication equipment, automated processing equipment, dispense technology, statistical process control, ISO/FDA regulations, risk management/FMEA methods, root cause analysis (6M's/ 5 Why's).
  • Enthusiasm and propensity to continuous learning and experimentation
  • Resourcefulness, ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills.
  • Detail oriented and ability to multi-task.
  • Excellent ability to communicate clearly, concisely, accurately, and openly with colleagues, supervisor, and team leader.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Specialized industry training in Manufacturing
  • Experience using statistical process control and Six Sigma methodology and A3 forms for root cause analysis.
  • Demonstrate expertise in any of the following areas would be preferred:
    • Manufacturing Operations
    • Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
    • JMP, Minitab, SQL, or other statistical software of database querying language.
    • Working in a regulated environment (Standards such as ISO, GMP, and FDA)
