General Functions:

Use computers, workstations, and other devices to prepare client files for computer to plate processing. The process includes preparing files for production, imposition, plate making, and detecting/correcting errors.

Responsibilities:

• Use Illustrator and comparable software to manipulate, edit, and process native and pdf client supplied files resulting in a print-ready file, preferably with experience in a folding carton environment
• Create Epson proofs to send to clients for approval
• Impose approved digital files for plate-making distribution
• Send files to the plating output device
• Make plates
• Provide proofreading and quality control support at all stages within the department
• Perform all assigned work efficiently, accurately, and on schedule to ensure presses meet production schedule
• Perform system back up and file archiving/administration as assigned
• Perform weekly maintenance at the direction of the Prepress Manager
• Perform daily filing tasks as required
• Process and inspect printing plates
• Pull and file plates as necessary
• Knowledge of Heidelberg Prinect PDF Workflow Plus

Education Level Required or Equivalent:

Undergraduate degree in business or graphic arts preferred, or equivalent of three to five years of related experience and/or training.

Skills Required:

Language/Communication Skills

• Extremely detail-oriented with good English written/verbal communication skills
• Must communicate effectively to the appropriate departments to ensure work continuity
• Must be familiar with special terminology involving printing/prepress industry
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals

Computer Skills

• Experience with traditional prepress and MAC based programs such as Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign
• Experience on printing plate making devices

Mathematical Skills

• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

Disposition Skills

• Be energetic and proactive when working on assigned jobs
