Description
The Director of Tax and Treasury is an integral part of a dedicated and highly skilled leadership team, responsible for providing outstanding customized service to our principals. Maintaining a high level of service is critical to the success of this position. The individual in this role is responsible for providing superior leadership and strategic oversight of tax, treasury management, and compliance-related matters. Collaborates with the Vice President of Finance to plan and implement initiatives and strategies for the department.
Reporting Relationship: Vice President of Finance
Direct Reports: Senior Analyst (2)
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership:
  • Effectively leads others to ensure a professional and highly competent team.
  • Provide ongoing feedback; develop, mentor, and motivate direct reports; lead by setting a good example; create an environment oriented to trust, open communication, and cohesive team effort.
  • Set goals and direction; manage and evaluate performance.
  • Actively lead tax initiatives and planning.
  • Actively participate in strategic planning, short-term and long-term planning, budget development, and other strategic business functions; execute accordingly to actualize business objectives.
Tax Management, Strategy and Compliance:
  • Maintain and leverage relationships with external tax advisors to strategically plan and align on long-term planning and short-term compliance opportunities.
  • Lead the preparation of tax workpapers and review income tax returns, property tax returns, sales and use tax returns, estimated tax calculations, and tax projections for individuals, trusts, limited liability companies, partnerships, and corporations in partnership with tax advisors.
  • Proactively identify and communicate potential tax risks or legislative changes impacting estate plans, working with advisors to pivot strategies as necessary to preserve capital.
  • Manage the annual tax compliance timeline, ensuring that information gathered and shared with tax advisors is reliable and accurate and that deadlines are met.
  • Act as a key liaison for the Investment Committee regarding tax implications of portfolio investments.
  • Manage tax planning for the aircraft program and ensure compliance with federal regulations.
  • Manage organizational compliance (including KYC, AML, and CTA) and develop strategies to mitigate the impact of these.
  • Oversee the collection and processing of K-1s.
  • Review complex legal documents, including trust agreements and entity organizational
  • documents, to evaluate their impact on the broader tax and treasury landscape of the organization.
  • Work collaboratively with the accounting team on potential tax consequences and fixed asset review.
Treasury Management:
  • Oversee daily cash treasury operations, intercompany cash management, and cash flow forecasting.
  • Ensure all bank compliance reports are maintained and manage all banking relationships.
  • Implement a multi-currency strategy to mitigate risks associated with currency fluctuations.
  • Continuously improve treasury management to drive operational efficiency and financial controls.
Other:
  • Provide support for Peter Island, as needed.
  • Serve as an internal accounting resource for projects, as needed.
  • Effectively collaborate and communicate with others; demonstrate a desire to be part of a team.
  • Exercise sound judgment and an appropriate sense of urgency.
  • Complete other projects and duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field is required; graduate degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Active CPA designation is required.
  • At least 8-12 years of progressively more responsible experience in tax is required.
  • Understanding of advanced accounting, regulatory issues, and tax planning.
  • Corporate, Partnership, Trust, and Individual income and gift tax preparation knowledge is preferred.
  • Intellectual curiosity, self-motivation, strong personal organization, and ownership of one's work.
  • Leadership experience and skills required; demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Prior family office experience is highly desirable.
  • A strategic thinker with exceptional diplomacy, verbal and written communication skills, and innovative problem-solving skills.
  • Proven track record of providing outstanding customer service with a professional, tactful demeanor.
  • Strong relationship management skills with a consultative approach and excellent listening skills; ability to build and encourage mutually beneficial relationships at every level.

  • Occasional travel may be required, including international travel.
  • Must maintain the highest standards of professional conduct, ethics, and integrity in all operations.
