Job description

Mujin is the future of industrial robotic systems in production and distribution environments. Our technology gives robots perception and awareness, enabling them to take on more advanced tasks. We aim to revolutionize the use of robotics within industry to free human resources from labor-intensive tasks to focus on more intellectual challenges.    

As the Senior Software Developer in Test at Mujin, you will play a pivotal role in providing Test Engineering thought leadership and QA infrastructure and tooling expertise to focused R&D teams developing innovative software solutions. SDET’s enable the product development organization to produce Mujin systems and software that are fit-for-purpose. The role collaborates with other colleagues and stakeholders to successfully launch Mujin products, while also providing remote and onsite support.    

Your mission is advancing the state-of-the-art for quality engineering at Mujin. You will develop cutting-edge quality systems and implement test automation frameworks. Our applications are performance-critical and involve autonomous interactions with the surrounding world in an uncontrolled environment. You will build, test, and deploy your work in simulation and in the real world on the world’s most advanced hardware. You will contribute to the development of ambitious high-impact projects as part of a dedicated team of world-class “Mujineers”.

Position Description:     

  • Lead the design and implementation of robust systems, processes, and tools to elevate Mujin systems and software quality, reliability, and user experience.   
  • Contribute test coverage, tooling, and simulators across a multi-repo software ecosystem spanning robot control, material handling equipment integration, and fleet/mobile robot services. 
  • Shift-Left quality engineering and test automation principles to incorporate first-time-right goals into the design phase of the software development process. 
  • Set up and maintain test automation frameworks and coach developers on how to leverage them for finding/fixing bugs faster while increasing coverage. 
  • Design and implement simulators for industrial robots, material handling equipment, sensors, and warehouse management systems.  
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure seamless system interoperability.     
  • Review code and provide developers with constructive feedback to drive continuous improvements in quality and reliability.    
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to accelerate/expand test planning to include unit, functional, integration, end-to-end with dependencies, exception (negative) cases, and performance testing, including validating integration contracts and communication boundaries between control services and hardware bridge integrations. 
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in deployed systems.    
  • Instill discipline and quality-first culture for timely delivery and exceptional user experience.    
  • Proactively diagnose sources of developer friction (release issues, production problems, rework due to gaps and errors) and develop corrective and preventative action plans to address. 
  • Other duties as required.  

Position Requirements:    

  • Bachelor’s in Robotics, Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience.     
  • 5+ years of professional experience in software-driven product development for industrial automation, robotics, or similar industry.  
  • Advanced programming skills in C++ and Python, along with being a Linux power user with experienced in Linux software development.
  • Deep knowledge in the networking stack, protocols, routing, async I/O, multi-threading, inter-process communication, and debugging distributed systems across service boundaries. 
  • Experience designing QE strategies and implementing QA test plans for complex technology involving electromechanical devices and software ecosystems.    
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and build systems for large-scale, multi-module 
    software projects. 

Preferred Qualifications:    

  • Master’s or PhD in Robotics, Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience.  
  • 10+ years of professional experience in software-driven product development for industrial automation, robotics, or similar industry.   
  • Background in one or more Robotics Software specialties: Vision, Fleet Management, Warehouse Execution, Motion Planning, Picking/Packing, Device I/O, Simulation. 
  • Experience with real-time systems.   
  • Experience validating both simulated and real hardware-in-the-loop behavior for robotic or automation systems.
