Job description

As we continue to grow and expand our services, we are seeking an accomplished Principal Software Engineer to work ONSITE to serve as a technical leader and architect across our software ecosystem. This role is responsible for driving the design, scalability, and evolution of mission-critical systems that support genetic testing workflows, clinical reporting, and data-driven insights. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with strong leadership, systems thinking, and the ability to influence engineering direction across teams. This position will collaborate closely with geneticists, bioinformaticians, laboratory professionals, and product leaders to deliver robust, secure, and innovative software solutions that directly impact patient care.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES

ยท Lead the architecture, design, and development of complex software systems and platforms

ยท Define and champion engineering standards, best practices, and long-term technical roadmaps

ยท Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business needs into scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions

ยท Conduct deep technical reviews, guide system design discussions, and ensure architectural consistency across teams

ยท Mentor and coach engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning

ยท Drive root-cause analysis and resolution of complex technical issues, ensuring system reliability and data integrity

ยท Evaluate emerging technologies and guide strategic adoption where appropriate

ยท Partner with product, laboratory, and bioinformatics teams to optimize workflows and enhance operational efficiency

ยท Ensure compliance with security, privacy, and regulatory requirements across all software systems

ยท Contribute to innovation initiatives that advance Baylor Geneticsโ€™ digital capabilities and competitive advantage

ยท Perform other duties as assigned to support team and organizational objectives.

ยท Comply with all company policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

ยท B.S. in Computer Science or related field required

ยท 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant experience in large-scale or complex systems

ยท Expert-level proficiency with C# and .NET (e.g., .NET Core / .NET 6+)

ยท Extensive experience architecting and building React + TypeScript applications

ยท Deep expertise with relational databases such as MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or MySQL, including schema design, performance tuning, and data modeling

ยท Proven experience designing, implementing, and governing RESTful APIs and distributed systems

ยท Strong background in software architecture, system design, and engineering best practices

ยท Demonstrated experience leading technical initiatives, mentoring engineers, and influencing cross-functional decision-making

ยท Strong understanding of DevOps principles, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-native architectures

ยท Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate ambiguity and complexity

ยท Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred:

ยท M.S. or higher preferred in Computer Science or related field

ยท Experience in healthcare, clinical diagnostics, genomics, or NGS environments

ยท Familiarity with laboratory workflows, LIMS systems, or clinical reportingplatforms

ยท Experience working in regulated environments (CLIA, CAP, HIPAA)

ยท Background in designing secure, compliant, and audit-ready systems

ยท Experience with high-performance or data-intensive applications, including optimization and scalability strategies
