About the role
The Critical Operations Technician(s) (COT) are Prime Data Center's front line responders for hands-on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting and operation. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, stand-by diesel generators, switchboards/switchgears, UPSs, PDUs, AHUs, pumps, motors, VFDs, and building automation systems.
The COT maintains and follows the processes that maximize customer uptime in the most cost-effective way. Ensures that data center problems are identified and repaired quickly, that contractors deliver quality services, and that internal customer demands are met.
Reports to: Critical Facilities Manager
Location: Onsite in data center located in north Dallas TX area
Available Shifts/Schedules:
This role is a non-exempt (hourly) position with eligibility for overtime. We are hiring technicians for our existing data center facility in Dallas TX. We are currently hiring for the following shift:
  • 12-hour night shift w/ occasional shift coverage of other shifts -
    • 10:00pm - 10:00am
    • 10:00pm -10:00pm

What you'll do
  • Operate and maintain mechanical and electrical, mechanical, emergency generator, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center.
  • Troubleshoot of facility events within internal SLAs.
  • Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures
  • Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to while performing work
  • Work a 12-hour shift (3 and 4 day work weeks days or nights)
  • Take daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment through routine rounds/log taking (temperatures, voltages, currents, etc.)
  • Perform BMS (Building Management System) Facility monitoring, logging, reporting, and trending of critical information.
  • Utilize internal CMMS to manage building workflows and spare part inventory
  • Supervise contractors who perform servicing or preventive maintenance
  • Fully comply with all physical security procedures and policies
  • Drive innovation while reducing operational costs in the facilities

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
  • Two or more years of technical training, military training, or workplace equivalency
  • Background in areas of IT, electrical, and/or mechanical

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two or more years of work experience in data center environment or equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:
  • Possess an understanding of the mechanical, electrical, and fire life safety systems used in a data center environment including, but not limited to the following: electrical distribution and layout, Transformers, PLC's, Generators, Switchgear, UPS systems, STS', ATS' PDU's, Chilled Water Systems, CRAC/CRAH's, Pre-Action Sprinkler Systems
  • Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, NFPA 25, and compliance issues as well as building codes in regard to fire life safety
  • Current knowledge in industrial safety best practices (i.e., lockout/tag out, arc flash protection, OSHA, and state regulations)

Physical Requirements:
All physical requirements are expected with reasonable accommodations:
  • Walk job sites in uneven terrain
  • Work at heights and from ladders
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 49 pounds; and participate in group lifts for 50 pounds or more
  • Reach and stretch to position equipment and fixtures while maintaining balance
