What are Primary Graphic Designers?

Primary Graphic Designers are creative professionals responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and producing visual content for various media, such as print, digital, and social platforms. They collaborate with clients or marketing teams to develop visual concepts that communicate messages effectively and align with branding guidelines. Their tasks often include creating logos, advertisements, web layouts, and other graphic elements. Primary Graphic Designers typically use software like Adobe Creative Suite and must stay updated on design trends to produce compelling visuals that meet project objectives.

What is the main job in graphic design?

The main job of a primary graphic designer is to create visual concepts, using computer software or by hand, to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, or captivate audiences. Is AI replacing graphic designers?

AI tools are increasingly used in graphic design to automate repetitive tasks and generate ideas, but they do not replace the creativity, strategic thinking, and client collaboration that primary graphic designers provide. Designers who adapt by learning to work with AI and mastering design software remain essential in the industry. AI serves as a complement rather than a substitute for skilled graphic designers.

What is the primary role of a graphic designer?

A primary graphic designer creates visual content to communicate messages through layouts, images, and typography for various media such as print, digital, and advertising. They use design software like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator and often collaborate with clients or teams to develop concepts and ensure brand consistency.

Mastery of industry-standard software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) is typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and strong communication skills help designers interpret client needs and collaborate effectively. These skills and qualities are essential for producing engaging visual content that meets both client objectives and brand standards.

The Role
cocokind is seeking a Graphic Designer to support the execution of design work across all brand touchpoints. This role will focus on bringing campaigns and creative concepts to life across social, retail, digital, and product, while helping maintain a consistent and high-quality brand experience.
You will work closely with the Senior Graphic Designer and cross-functional partners to deliver thoughtful, detail-oriented design work in a fast-paced environment. This is a great opportunity for someone excited to grow their craft and gain exposure to a wide range of design applications.
This role reports to our Senior Graphic Designer, and is based in San Francisco with in-office presence 2-3 days per week.
What You'll Do
  • Execute and organize design assets across channels, including social, email, website, paid media, and retail
  • Translate campaign concepts and direction into clear, on-brand deliverables
  • Support the creation of product and packaging design files, as needed
  • Create in-store retail merchandising designs for primary and secondary placements, partnering closely with brand and retail sales teams
  • Create and optimize visuals for DTC and retailer dotcom product pages in collaboration with brand and retail sales teams
  • Assist in preparing assets for photoshoots, launches, and campaign rollouts
  • Maintain and apply brand guidelines to ensure consistency across all touchpoints
  • Partner with brand, digital, and product teams to support ongoing design needs
  • Manage multiple projects and timelines, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery
  • Incorporate feedback and iterate quickly while maintaining attention to detail

Who You Are
  • 2-4 years of experience in a graphic design role
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating clean, thoughtful execution across digital and/or brand design
  • Solid understanding of design fundamentals, including typography, layout, and composition
  • Proficient in Figma, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Asana, and other design tools
  • Experience designing for digital channels (social, web, email, or paid media)
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills
  • Collaborative and open to feedback, with a willingness to learn and grow
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and adapting to shifting priorities
  • Interest in beauty, wellness, or consumer brands is a plus

What's in it for you
  • Competitive Salary (DOE)
  • Performance-based bonus
  • Unlimited flexible time-off policy
  • $500 remote office set-up stipend
  • Full healthcare, vision, and dental plan
  • Healthcare and dependent care FSA
  • Employee life insurance
  • 401K plan
  • $10,000 Lifetime Fertility & Family Building Program
  • $50/month wellness budget
  • $75/month remote work budget
  • Employee + Family and friends discount

Why cocokind
At cocokind, we do things differently, and we do them with heart. From challenging outdated beauty standards to creating formulas people can trust, we're here to raise the bar.
