How much do pricing roofing jobs pay per year?

As of Aug 21, 2026, the average yearly pay for pricing roofing in the United States is $92,983.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $70,000.00 and $118,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is pricing roofing?

Pricing roofing refers to the process of estimating the cost for installing, repairing, or replacing a roof. This involves measuring the roof area, assessing the type and quality of materials needed, considering labor costs, and accounting for factors like roof complexity and location. Accurate pricing ensures both homeowners and contractors have a clear understanding of the project costs before work begins. Roofing prices can vary significantly depending on materials such as asphalt shingles, metal, or tile, as well as the size and pitch of the roof. Obtaining detailed quotes from reputable contractors helps ensure a fair price and quality workmanship.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in pricing roofing projects, and how can they be managed effectively?

One of the most common challenges in pricing roofing projects is accurately estimating material and labor costs while accounting for unforeseen site conditions or weather delays. Professionals must also stay updated on fluctuating material prices and local regulations, which can impact overall project costs. To manage these challenges, it's important to perform thorough site assessments, maintain strong relationships with suppliers for up-to-date pricing, and use specialized roofing estimation software. Collaboration with project managers and field crews also ensures all factors are considered, leading to more precise and competitive bids.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a roofing estimator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Roofing Estimator, you need a solid understanding of construction methods, roofing materials, and cost analysis, often supported by experience in the roofing industry or a related field. Familiarity with estimating software, blueprint reading, and project management systems is typically required. Strong attention to detail, negotiation skills, and effective communication help build trust with clients and ensure accurate project bids. These abilities are crucial for delivering precise estimates, winning contracts, and maintaining profitability in a competitive market.

What is the difference between Pricing Roofing vs Roofing Estimator?

AspectPricing RoofingRoofing Estimator
CredentialsExperience in roofing, basic estimating skillsSimilar experience, often with additional certifications
Work EnvironmentOn-site and office-basedPrimarily office-based with site visits
Industry UsageUsed by roofing companies for cost calculationsUsed by roofing companies for project bids

Pricing Roofing focuses on calculating costs for roofing projects, while Roofing Estimators prepare detailed bids and proposals. Both roles require similar skills and experience, but Estimators typically handle more comprehensive project assessments and client interactions.

How to estimate roofing jobs?

A roofing estimator calculates the cost of a roofing job by measuring the roof's surface area, assessing material requirements, and considering labor costs. Accurate measurements and knowledge of roofing materials, tools like measurement tapes or drones, and experience with local building codes are essential for precise estimates.

Job description

About Altitude Roofing

Altitude Roofing is one of Central Massachusetts’ most trusted, top-rated roofing contractors. With over 20 years of experience, an A+ BBB rating, and certifications from six of the industry’s premier manufacturers (GAF, CertainTeed, Owens Corning, Carlisle, etc.), we have built a reputation on honesty, exceptional quality, and transparent communication.

We pride ourselves on providing property owners with stress-free roofing solutions, flexible financing options, and lifetime-warranted quality. Because of our rapid growth and strong brand presence, we are expanding our sales team!

The Role

We are looking for a motivated, trustworthy, and results-driven Residential Roofing Sales Representative to join our team.

In this role, you won't just be "selling roofs"—you will be acting as a trusted advisor to homeowners. You’ll educate clients on their options, walk them through our financing and lifetime warranty programs, and help them protect their biggest investment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Consultative Selling: Conduct on-site roof inspections, deliver compelling presentations, and guide homeowners through material selections (shingles, metal, slate, flat roof systems).
  • Estimate & Proposal Generation: Provide accurate, timely, and competitive quotes to potential customers using our established pricing models.
  • Lead Management: Respond promptly to incoming company-generated leads while proactively building your network through referrals, local networking, and canvas efforts.
  • Financing Guidance: Walk clients through our various "Roof Now, Pay Later" financing options to help close deals.
  • Pipeline Management: Maintain clear communication with prospective and closed clients from initial contact through project completion.
  • Team Collaboration: Partner with our production team to ensure seamless transitions from sales hand-off to project installation.

What We’re Looking For

  • Sales Experience: 1–3+ years of experience in residential sales, home improvement, or construction sales (roofing sales experience is a huge plus, but we are willing to train the right person).
  • Customer-First Mindset: High integrity, excellent communication skills, and a professional demeanor—our customers hire us because they trust us.
  • Self-Motivated: Comfortable operating in the field, managing your own calendar, and chasing down target goals.
  • Comfortable with Heights: Willingness to perform basic ladder climbs and roof inspections when necessary.
  • Valid Driver’s License: Reliable personal vehicle for traveling to local client appointments.

Why Join Altitude Roofing?

  • High Earning Potential: Uncapped commission structure paired with a strong company brand that makes closing easier.
  • Inbound Lead Support: Benefit from our strong local reputation, Google-Verified status, and active marketing.
  • Financing Advantage: Access to flexible financing programs that help close deals on the spot.
  • Strong Back-End Support: Our dedicated install crews deliver incredible work on time and on budget, meaning happy customers and strong referral business for you.
  • Great Culture: Work directly with an experienced, accessible team leader (Chet) who values your contribution and supports your growth.
