Job description

Job Title: Press Brake Machine Set-Up OperatorJob Description

This role focuses on setting up and operating press brake machines in a climate-controlled industrial manufacturing environment. You will prepare tooling and equipment, run pilot pieces to verify quality, and support production on established 2nd and 3rd shifts, with flexibility to train on 1st or 2nd shift as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Set up line tools and press brake equipment to meet production requirements and part specifications.
  • Position, align, and securely bolt dies, attaching the bottom section to the press bed or bolster plate and the upper section to the ram.
  • Set up and verify proper operation of all safety operating devices on the press brake line.
  • Configure and synchronize automatic material feed systems for dimensional control and press ram action, including roll, hitch, dial, and magazine mechanisms.
  • Load material onto reels or into bins to support continuous and efficient production flow.
  • Operate press brakes to produce pilot pieces for inspection, verifying hole sizes, dimensions, contours, and shapes against specifications.
  • Use and interpret scales, squares, check fixtures, calipers, micrometers, patterns, samples, and related inspection equipment to set up presses, check work, and perform Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance (P.M.) on assigned machines and equipment to ensure reliable operation.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas through regular housekeeping activities.
  • Pack finished items into cartons or containers according to production and quality standards.
  • Work effectively on 2nd or 3rd shift, and remain flexible to train on 1st or 2nd shift as required by production needs.
Essential Skills
  • Proven press brake set-up experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience setting up and operating brake press machines, including 8-, 10-, and 12-foot press brakes up to 200 tons.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints to understand part requirements and tolerances.
  • Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with machine set-up processes for press brake operations.
  • Competence using inspection tools such as scales, squares, check fixtures, calipers, micrometers, patterns, and samples.
  • Ability to perform SPC (Statistical Process Control) checks and use measurement data to verify quality.
  • Capability to set up and synchronize automatic material feed systems, including roll, hitch, dial, and magazine mechanisms.
  • Understanding of safety operating devices on press brake equipment and ability to ensure their proper function.
  • Ability to perform routine preventive maintenance on machines and keep work areas clean and organized.
  • Willingness and ability to work 2nd or 3rd shift and train on 1st or 2nd shift as needed.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with CNC press brake machines is highly beneficial.
  • Background with a variety of brake press machines is welcome; experience with modern machines is ideal but not required.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Attention to detail and strong focus on quality and dimensional accuracy.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work effectively as part of a production team.

Work Environment

This position is based in an industrial manufacturing facility, specifically in a climate-controlled area of the plant that enhances comfort and consistency. You will work with 8-, 10-, and 12-foot press brakes up to 200 tons, along with associated tooling, automatic material feed mechanisms, and standard inspection equipment. Current shift times are 1st shift 6:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. and 2nd shift 3:30 p.m.–2:00 a.m., Monday–Thursday. Future shift times will be 1st shift 6:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m., 2nd shift 2:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m., and 3rd shift 10:00 p.m.–6:00 a.m. Training may occur on 1st or 2nd shift before moving into a 2nd or 3rd shift assignment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Raleigh, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $28.00/hr.
