Summary
The Senior Buyer will develop and implement strategy for best approach regarding cost, risk, and schedule balance for assigned commodities. The Sr. Buyer will be required to deliver complex, custom-engineering solutions to a diverse customer base with challenging schedules and cost boundaries.
Responsibilities
- Develop a North America specific purchasing sourcing concept buy vs outsource together with manufacturing.
- Review customer specification and provides procurement related comments as needed.
- Perform market analysis, negotiate diligently with suppliers on technical and commercial issues to ensure that material and services purchased are done so in the most effective manner at or below market levels or cost estimates for the work.
- Build, maintain, and leverage vendor relationships to benefit Voith's customers
- Coordinate and align purchasing activities with the global Material Group Managers.
- Provide customer-focused assistance to internal customers, particularly in association with key projects and requirements.
- Must be willing and able to travel domestically and internationally (Canada / MX)
- Purchase material and services in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Have a 'Continuous Improvement' mindset and be a leader on process improvements.
- Develop collaborative relationships / strategic alliances with suppliers to promote quality improvement and cost reductions.
- Support special project activities for the team as assigned by the Director of Purchasing.
- Build-up of a North American supplier base to support the P&S Spare and Wear part business
- Capacity planning together with sub - suppliers.
- Coordinate time critical delivery purchases with OM / Project Mgr. to ensure an on-time delivery for the shop assembly or onsite delivery.
- Model effective communication by being responsive, respectful, and diligent in follow-through, ensuring stakeholders are informed, aligned, and supported.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management or Engineering discipline.
- 5 - 8 years' experience in Purchasing, Supply Chain Management or Project Management in multinational corporation.
- Experience negotiating Frame Agreements or Master Purchase Agreements is a strong asset
- Paper Machinery or Stock Prep Equipment experience is a strong asset.
- Ability to build networks and work in cross-functional environment with different suppliers.
- Knowledge of SAP software.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Self-directed and detail-oriented with the desire to solve problems.
