Job description

Overview

We're hiring MIG Welders for our custom steel fabrication shop in Birmingham, AL.

We manufacture specialty alloy steel wear plate and custom wear solutions for industries like recycling, paper mills, and energy plants. You'll fit and weld parts from abrasion- and impact-resistant steel plate and structural steel, working from production drawings and AWS welding symbols.

This is a fitting-and-welding role, not a single-machine job: you'll run MIG, flux core, and stick, cut with mixed-gas and plasma torches, and prep jobs with beveling, labeling, and bracing before final welding.

1st Shift

  • Monday - Thursday: 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM
  • Friday: 5:00 AM to 1:30 PM

Compensation

  • $24 - $27/ hr

Responsibilities

  • Fitting & Welding: Fit and weld jobs to spec from our production drawings.
  • Assembly: Build parts using the correct jigs, fixtures, and procedures.
  • Job Prep: Bevel, label, and brace jobs before the welding department.
  • Torch Work: Cut and prep plate with mixed-gas and plasma torches.
  • Rigging: Move plate and assemblies with forklifts and overhead cranes.
  • Layout: Measure and verify with tape measures and angle finders.
  • Tool Care: Maintain your tools, machines, and a clean work area.

Requirements

Qualifications

Required

  • Vocational training or 3 years' fabrication experience
  • Proficient in FCAW, SMAW, and MIG welding
  • Weld tee and vertical joints
  • Read production drawings and AWS welding symbols
  • Operate mixed-gas and plasma torches

Preferred

  • Forklift and overhead crane experience
  • Wear-plate or heavy-plate fabrication experience
  • Understanding of cladding / weld overlay techniques
