Job Overview

The VDC/BIM Modeler is responsible for developing, updating, and maintaining discipline-specific 3D models for VDC projects. This role applies company BIM standards, modeling best practices, and technical expertise to ensure accurate and constructible models that support prefabrication and field installation. Working under the direction of the VDC/BIM Coordinator and VDC/BIM Manager, the VDC/BIM Modeler collaborates with detailers, engineers, and field teams to align digital models with project goals and construction requirements.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Tasks:

  Model Development & Maintenance
  • Develop and maintain discipline-specific 3D models (e.g., electrical) using contract documents, detailing inputs, and field markups.
  • Update and modify BIM models based on design changes, RFIs, and coordination feedback.
  • Ensure models are accurate, clean, and prepared for exports or deliverables (e.g., prefabrication sheets, shop drawings).
  Standards & Technical Execution
  • Apply company BIM standards, templates, and naming conventions to all modeling work.
  • Follow project-specific BIM Execution Plans (BEPs) and coordination protocols as defined by the VDC BIM Coordinator and VDC/BIM Manager.
  • Perform quality checks on model elements to ensure compliance with standards and readiness for coordination or export.
  Coordination & Collaboration
  • Collaborate with VDC/BIM Coordinators and VDC/BIM Detailers to support model integration, clash resolution, and construction alignment.
  • Identify potential clashes or constructability concerns and escalate to the BIM Coordinator for resolution.
  • Flag discrepancies between backgrounds and design intent and notify the BIM Coordinator for resolution.
  Prefabrication & Construction Support
  • Assist in generating installation drawings, prefabrication sheets, and model exports to support construction and fabrication workflows.
  • Support creation of dimensioned views and model exports for detailing to help bridge between modeling and field-ready documentation.
  • Coordinate with the manufacturing team to confirm modeled elements meet prefab requirements.
  Technical Support & Troubleshooting
  • Troubleshoot modeling issues and support team members with BIM software tools, standards, and best practices.

Compensation: 

Rex Moore pays hourly/salary rates commensurate with each employee’s knowledge, experience and skill level.    

Work environment:  

Work is performed in an office environment.  This position may be required to travel to other office locations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  Knowledge

  • Certificate or equivalent experience in modeling technologies and/or electrical field experience.
  • 2+ years modeling experience.
  • Proficiency in Revit; exposure to Navisworks/ACC.
  • Basic knowledge of prefab workflows and constructability.

  Key Skills

  • Accurate model population.
  • Ability to follow BIM standards.
  • Basic clash detection and coordination support.
  • Collaboration with Coordinators and Detailers.

  Abilities

  • Ability to support clean and accurate models.
  • Ability to grow field awareness and constructability understanding.
  • Ability to progress toward Sr. BIM Modeler role

Physical Requirements:  

  • Ability to verbally communicate: convey detailed and accurate instructions and information. 
  • Ability to hear with or without correction in order to receive and interpret detailed information. 
  • Required to sit at a desk work station for long periods of time. 
  • Push, pull, lift, carry at least 10 pounds and occasionally lift/move up to 35 pounds. 
  • Occasionally required to walk and stand for short and long periods of time. 
  • Required to have visual acuity with or without correction in order to read contract documents, analyze data, view a computer monitor, and proof-read documents to identify errors.    
  • Required to use fingers and hands:  type using a computer keyboard, handle, feel, and reach. 
  • May occasionally be required to stoop, kneel, and crouch.
