JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking an experienced Welder to support our produce processing plant by fabricating, repairing, and maintaining equipment used in food production. This role focuses on TIG and MIG welding of stainless steel to ensure all plant equipment meets strict food safety and sanitation standards. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, technical expertise, and the ability to work in a challenging environment.

Requirements:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform TIG and MIG welding on stainless steel equipment, piping, and structural components.
  • Fabricate, modify, and repair food processing machinery, conveyor systems, and plant infrastructure.
  • Ensure all welding and fabrication work complies with sanitary design standards for food safety.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to complete projects accurately.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and repairs to reduce equipment downtime.
  • Maintain compliance with food safety regulations (USDA, FDA, HACCP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Follow OSHA safety protocols and plant safety policies while working with welding equipment and machinery.
  • Assist in installing, upgrading, and modifying production equipment as needed.
  • Keep accurate records of completed work, inspections, and maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance, production, and engineering teams to support efficient plant operations.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED required; welding certification or vocational training preferred.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of welding experience, preferably in a food manufacturing or sanitary welding environment.
  • Proficiency in TIG and MIG welding, with experience in stainless steel welding.
  • Ability to work with thin-gauge materials and perform precision welding to sanitary standards.
  • Strong knowledge of welding techniques, metallurgy, and fabrication processes.
  • Familiarity with piping systems, conveyors, and industrial machinery maintenance.
  • Understanding food safety and sanitary welding requirements.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and P&ID diagrams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Flexibility required with schedule: hours, weekends, and holidays.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a food, beverage, or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
  • Certifications in AWS (American Welding Society) or related welding programs.
  • Knowledge of PLC systems, mechanical repairs, and basic electrical troubleshooting.


WORKING CONDITIONS

  • This role is performed in a manufacturing plant environment with exposure to cold (45°F or less), heat, humidity, noise, and moving mechanical parts.
  • Work may take place in both indoor and outdoor areas, depending on maintenance or fabrication needs.
  • The environment involves close proximity to welding equipment, machinery, and tools, requiring strict adherence to safety protocols.
  • Daily compliance with donning/doffing PPE and all food safety requirements.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, bend, and work on feet for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work in various environmental conditions (e.g., cold/wet (45°F or less), hot, humid, or noisy areas).
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity are required for precision welding and fabrication tasks.
  • May involve climbing, kneeling, reaching, or working in confined spaces, depending on the project.
