Job description

Description
• Develop, deliver and evaluate an externally funded row crop Precision Agriculture Technology Extension Program employing innovative teaching methodologies adapted to a diverse audience of producers, Extension Agents, professional consultants, as well as state, regional, national, and international leaders.
• Acquire extramural funding to support an applied research Program for row crop Precision Agriculture Technologies that supports BESS graduate student education and publication of research results.
• Work collaboratively with BESS Research and Extension faculty and professional partners to translate and teach advancements in Precision Agriculture Technologies to a producer audience.
• Publish timely and relevant peer reviewed Extension and journal articles and BESS Extension fact sheets.
• Collaboratively develop and field test or demonstrate row crop Precision Agriculture Technologies within a multidisciplinary team in focus areas that could include but are not limited to crop sensing systems, "smart" sprayers/applicators for nutrients, herbicides, and pesticides, harvesters, and field mapping and yield monitoring systems.
• Develop collaborative and advisory relationships with agricultural producers, BESS Research and Extension faculty, Extension Agents and Specialists, and equipment manufacturers.
• Provide leadership to state-level 4-H youth programs, including the 4-H Electric Camp.
• Participate in the service activities of the Department, Institute, University and profession.
Qualifications
Ph.D., or ABD with an expected completion date before August 1, 2025, in Biosystems, Biological, or Agricultural Engineering preferred; Ph.D. in other disciplines will be considered only if the applicant has a BS or MS degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology/Mechanization. Professional Engineer license/license eligibility is desired. Candidates for Assistant Professor must demonstrate an ability to conduct Extension Outreach and Education and to publish peer reviewed journal and Extension articles that focus on the development, application, and evaluation of row crop Precision Agriculture Technologies. Candidates for Associate Professor must demonstrate development of an externally funded Extension and Applied Research Program in row crop Precision Agriculture Technologies.
