Job description

Manual Machinist

About the Role
Hultec is seeking a skilled Manual Machinist to clean up and finish machined parts to precision specifications, while also supporting the build of components for our pipeline products. This role requires strong manual machining fundamentals; welding ability is a valuable plus that supports pipeline product fabrication. The ideal candidate takes pride in tight tolerances, clean finishes, and quality work that keeps production running.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean up, deburr, and finish machined parts on manual lathes, mills, and grinders to meet precision specifications and tolerances
  • Remove machining marks, burrs, and surface imperfections to achieve clean, finished surfaces on precision components
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to determine dimensions, tooling, and machining sequence
  • Weld and fabricate components for pipeline products (MIG/TIG/Stick), building assemblies to specification, for candidates with welding skills
  • Select appropriate tooling, feeds, speeds, and cutting parameters based on material type and part requirements
  • Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, gauges) to verify conformance to specifications
  • Identify and correct surface or dimensional defects on precision parts prior to final inspection
  • Perform routine maintenance on machine tools and welding equipment; maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
  • Maintain accurate production records/documentation
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to resolve dimensional or process issues
  • Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of PPE for machining and welding operations

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience as a manual machinist (lathe and mill required)
  • Proficiency reading blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T basics
  • Skilled use of precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, indicators, thread gauges)
  • Strong understanding of metal properties, machinability, and heat effects from welding
  • Ability to troubleshoot machining and repair issues independently
  • Solid math skills (geometry, trigonometry) for machining calculations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience finishing or cleaning up precision-machined parts to tight tolerances
  • Experience building or fabricating pipeline products or similar welded assemblies
  • Welding experience (MIG, TIG, and/or Stick) with ability to weld and build metal components/assemblies
  • CNC experience a plus, though not required for this manual-focused role
  • Formal machinist apprenticeship, vocational training, or relevant certification
  • Welding certification (AWS or equivalent)
  • Experience in a precision manufacturing or pipeline/oilfield products environment

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Extended periods of standing, and repetitive motion
  • For candidates performing welding tasks: comfortable working with welding equipment, heat, and associated PPE (welding helmet, gloves, protective clothing)

What Hultec Offers

  • Competitive hourly wage, commensurate with experience
  • Comprehensive benefits package - health, dental, vision, PTO, and retirement plan
  • Opportunities for skills development and cross-training
  • A stable, team-oriented shop environment

Equal Opportunity Employer

Hultec is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will be considered without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or genetics. This policy applies to all terms and conditions of employment, including recruiting, hiring, placement, promotion, termination, layoff, recall, transfer, leaves of absence, compensation, and training
