Job description

Machining Technology Adjunct

Machining Technology Adjunct at Tidewater Community College in Chesapeake, Virginia. The position is part-time with a hiring range of $793 - $1,375 per credit hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads for 50 years, growing from one campus into a regional educational and economic force. The college is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 25,000 students in 2024-25. The adjunct faculty member is responsible for teaching courses to which he/she has specific training or competence. Plans, organizes, teaches, and provides feedback to students to promote and direct student learning in either a classroom, remote via Zoom, or online environment to students with a wide variety of academic backgrounds and experiences. Engages students outside of class via office hours and provides thorough, timely, and effective feedback to students regarding the mastery of course and program learning outcomes.

Functional responsibilities include creating a learning environment that facilitates students' acquisition of knowledge and skills in a discipline and/or program, aligning course activities with student learning outcomes, delivering instruction in support of stated learning outcomes, and holding at least one office hour per week for each course assigned.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, minimum of five years of industry experience in machining, strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work effectively with a diverse student population, commitment to hands-on, student-centered instruction, and ability to communicate effectively in an electronic format.

Additional considerations include a diploma in Machine Tool Technology, Precision Machining, or apprenticeship, an associates degree or higher in a related technical, education field or apprenticeship, prior teaching or training experience at the post-secondary or workforce level, experience with modern CNC equipment, CAM software, and digital manufacturing tools, teaching experience at the college level, knowledge of CANVAS or other learning management systems, knowledge of, and experience with, proven teaching strategies that promote student success, and sufficient technology skills to work productively in an organization that utilizes significant information and instructional technology resources.
