Job description

Description


At National Trade Supply, the Maintenance Technician III is a senior-level technical role responsible for keeping our air and water filtration manufacturing facility running safely, efficiently, and without interruption. This position works across the full breadth of facility systems - electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and fabrication - and is expected to diagnose and resolve complex equipment and facility issues that others cannot. Responsibility for this role extends beyond production machinery to include the physical facility itself: building systems, infrastructure, utilities, and the overall condition of the environment our team works in every day.


This is a hands-on role for a skilled tradesperson who takes pride in precision, is highly motivated, responds with urgency to downtime, and brings the technical depth to handle both planned preventive maintenance and unplanned breakdowns. The Maintenance Technician III serves as a resource for less experienced team members and is expected to lead by example in both safety and craftsmanship.

Key Responsibilities


Electrical
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical systems including motors, motor controls, drives (VFDs), PLCs, sensors, and wiring up to 480V.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and ladder logic to diagnose faults.
  • Install, modify, and commission electrical panels, control circuits, and instrumentation.
  • Maintain facility lighting systems including replacing fixtures, ballasts, and bulbs throughout the building; coordinate lighting upgrades or repairs in production, warehouse, and common areas.
  • Ensure all electrical work complies with NEC standards, NFPA 70E, and company safety protocols.

Mechanical

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on production machinery including conveyors, laminating equipment, cutting machines, and assembly line equipment used in air and water filtration manufacturing.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical failures including bearings, gearboxes, belts, chains, couplings, and drive systems.
  • Perform precision alignment of shafts, pulleys, and couplings using appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and technical specifications.

Pneumatic

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain pneumatic systems including compressors, air lines, regulators, solenoid valves, cylinders, and actuators throughout the facility.
  • Read and interpret pneumatic schematics and diagrams to identify component failures and system inefficiencies.
  • Replace and calibrate pneumatic components to restore proper system pressure, flow, and function.

Hydraulic

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair hydraulic systems including pumps, cylinders, valves, hoses, fittings, and reservoirs on production and facility equipment.
  • Identify and resolve hydraulic leaks, pressure issues, and system failures using schematics and diagnostic tools.
  • Perform fluid analysis, filter changes, and system flushes as part of a scheduled preventive maintenance program.

Fabrication

  • Design and fabricate replacement parts, brackets, guards, and fixtures using welding equipment (MIG/TIG/stick) and other shop tools.
  • Read and work from mechanical drawings, blueprints, and sketches to produce parts to specification.
  • Select appropriate materials and fabrication methods to ensure durability, safety, and cost efficiency.

Facility Maintenance

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all facility-related maintenance issues, ensuring building systems and infrastructure are maintained in safe, functional, and professional condition at all times.
  • Perform and coordinate repairs to building systems including HVAC units, exhaust fans, rooftop equipment, and ventilation systems; escalate to outside contractors when scope exceeds in-house capability.
  • Maintain facility plumbing systems including sinks, drains, toilets, water lines, and water heaters; identify and resolve leaks, blockages, and pressure issues promptly.
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair facility doors, dock doors, dock levelers, roll-up doors, and entry hardware; coordinate preventive maintenance on dock equipment to ensure reliable daily operation.
  • Maintain interior and exterior facility conditions including floors, walls, ceilings, and roof integrity; identify and report structural concerns to the Plant Manager.
  • Coordinate and oversee work performed by outside contractors and vendors for facility repairs, inspections, and capital projects; ensure vendor work meets safety requirements and quality standards before sign-off.
  • Respond promptly to reported facility issues including leaks, temperature complaints, lighting outages, door malfunctions, and other building concerns; prioritize resolution to minimize disruption to operations.

General Maintenance & Safety

  • Execute and document preventive maintenance tasks on a scheduled basis using the facility's CMMS (computerized maintenance management system).
  • Respond to emergency breakdowns and equipment failures with a sense of urgency to minimize production downtime.
  • Perform and enforce full lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures on all equipment before maintenance work begins.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in the maintenance shop and throughout the facility.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to manufacturing team members.
  • Communicate equipment and facility status, completed work, and pending issues to the Plant Manager and Production Supervisor.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate's degree or technical/trade school certification in industrial maintenance, electrical, mechanical, or facilities technology strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 6 years of hands-on industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment, with demonstrated proficiency across at least four of the five skill disciplines: electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and fabrication.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining building systems including HVAC, plumbing, lighting, doors, and general facility infrastructure.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting skills; ability to work safely on systems up to 480V; NFPA 70E awareness required.
  • Proficiency with pneumatic and hydraulic systems; ability to read schematics and diagnose system faults.
  • Fabrication skills including welding (MIG/TIG/stick), cutting, and basic powered tool knowledge preferred.
  • Experience with PLCs, VFDs, and industrial control systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Experience with CMMS software for work order management and PM documentation.
  • Experience coordinating outside contractors and facility vendors preferred.

  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.; able to stand, walk, kneel, climb, and work in confined spaces or at heights as required.
