JOB SUMMARY
The Technical Sales and Business Development Manager is the primary driver of revenue and margin growth and is the company's customer relationship leader. This is a business where every part we make is custom, and every customer relationship goal is long-term. This is not a traditional transactional sales position but more about becoming a trusted partner and an extension of our customers. You will identify and cultivate relationships with engineers, purchasers, designers, regulatory and quality managers, and business leaders at companies across various market segments, such as medical devices, aerospace, RF connectors, firearms, and others, that require tight-tolerance, high-precision components.
Beyond account development, you will own GMI's digital presence, including the website and social media channels, ensuring that, through our marketing partner, we communicate our capabilities clearly and compellingly to a technical and purchasing audience
RESPONSIBILTIES
Sales, Revenue & Margins
  • Develop and execute a sales strategy to drive revenue growth, expand market share, and increase profitability in our target industries of medical devices, aerospace, RF connectors, firearms, and other segments requiring high precision manufacturing.
  • Achieve or exceed annual revenue targets, new customer acquisition, and gross margin goals through effective pricing and quoting strategies, and value-based selling of GMI's skill set with Swiss CNC-machined components and assembly.
  • Identify, qualify, and close new customer accounts while expanding business with existing customers through identifying additional parts machining and assembly needs, while building long-term relationships.
  • Manage the complete sales cycle, from lead generation and RFQ response, internal cross-functional collaboration, effective communication, quoting, and post-sale customer representation within GMI to see that the job gets done correctly and timely (OTD).
  • Identify, develop, track, measure, modify and report KPI's that are deemed to be useful towards achieving the sales & marketing objectives and future opportunities

Account Development & Customer Relationship Management
  • Build and maintain trust-based relationships with engineers, business leaders, project managers, and procurement contacts, etc., with all existing customers.
  • Own the communication with the customer from the initial contact through the RFQ and quoting process, act as the pre-production liaison, provide regular updates during production, etc. Be the customer's voice inside GMI.
  • Identify opportunities with new prospects and existing customers based on their new needs or negative experience with other shops due to tight tolerance challenges, supplier failures, tight schedules, or complex geometries that require Swiss-turn expertise. Other shop no-quote targets

Technical & Consultative Support
  • Develop a working understanding of Swiss CNC lathe capabilities, tolerances, materials, and finishing processes so you can engage credibly with engineering contacts.
  • Collaborate with estimating and engineering teams to translate customer requirements into accurate quotes and feasible proposals.
  • Facilitate quality needs and new part onboarding by coordinating internally and keeping customers informed throughout the process.
  • Annually gather and analyze customer feedback on our quality, lead time, communication, and service through the customer survey. Identify actionable improvements in partnership with production and our quality teams.
  • Review engineering drawings and support design-for-manufacturability conversations

Marketing, Lead Generation & Brand Awareness

  • Own and manage the GMI website: maintain content accuracy, coordinate updates with web developers or vendors, and ensure the site effectively communicates capabilities to a technical buyer.
  • Develop and execute a social media strategy across LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and other relevant platforms. Focus on sharing our history, ESOP advantages, machining and assembly capabilities, current project highlights (as possible), ISO and other certifications, and industry-relevant articles and blog posts.
  • Create or coordinate content, including photography, short videos, case studies, and capability sheets that demonstrate machining expertise to prospective customers.
  • Monitor website analytics and social engagement metrics; use data to improve content strategy and lead generation over time.
  • Develop marketing collateral such as capability brochures, trade show materials, and email communications.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Working understanding of machining processes (Swiss CNC lathe machining preferred)
  • Known relationship network in contract manufacturing
  • US Persons qualified for ITAR and FFL compliant
  • Experience with contract management and legal compliance
  • Experience analyzing markets and forecasting sales
  • Excellent communication skills, listening to customer's needs and translating them to engineering team
