Primary Purpose:
Assist the teacher(s) in the preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under the supervision of a certified teacher(s).
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED
Texas Instructional Aide certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of general office equipment
Light clerical skills
Ability to work with students and teachers effectively
Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
At least one year experience working with school-aged children
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  1. Prepare for classroom activities as directed by the classroom teacher.
  2. Work with small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher.
  3. Assist individual children formally identified in need of special education
  4. Perform clerical duties as assigned.
  5. Assist in managing the behavior of students and crisis intervention as needed.
  6. Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student's special medical, physical, communicative and emotional needs.
  7. Assist students with potty training as needed.
  8. Assist in supervising students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom, including lunchroom, bus duty, and playground.
  9. Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students.
  10. Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
  11. Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom.
  12. Assist in inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  13. Assist the teacher in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports.
  14. Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events, as needed.
  15. Keep abreast of innovative practices.
  16. Be adaptable and flexible in acceptance of changes in techniques and procedures.
  17. Maintain a professional level of confidentiality regarding all district matters.
  18. Uphold and adhere to safety rules.
  19. Support the goals and objectives of the district and follow district policies.
  20. Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up by the teacher
  21. Provide assistance to the substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.

Student Management
  1. Manage student behavior in the classroom.
  2. Help supervise students during arrival and dismissal from school.

Other
  1. Assist with office and workroom clerical duties as needed.
  2. Maintain confidentiality.
  3. Participate in staff development, faculty meetings, and special events as needed.
