General Purpose

The Service Journeyman leads service operations, including installing, troubleshooting, and repairing sign equipment. This role involves ensuring high-quality service delivery, training apprentices, and maintaining customer satisfaction through effective problem-solving and technical expertise.

A Day in the Life

As a Service Journeyman, you will take charge of service jobs, assessing malfunctions, making repairs, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. Your day may include coordinating service calls, operating lift equipment, performing electrical troubleshooting, and mentoring apprentices. This role requires a high level of technical skill, leadership, and customer interaction.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review service orders, reports, and documentation from customers and night patrol representatives

  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair electrical, sign, and lighting equipment

  • Operate lift equipment to access sign and lighting displays for service and repair

  • Work with hand tools, power tools, and metal cutting equipment

  • Train and mentor apprentices and new service employees

  • Manage service documentation and ensure accurate work order completion

  • Communicate professionally with customers and coworkers

  • Maintain and organize service vehicles and ensure proper inventory levels

  • Assist in emergency service calls when required

  • Ensure a clean, safe, and organized work environment

  • Perform preventative maintenance on signage and service equipment

  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Valid CDL driver's license or willingness and ability to obtain a CDL if needed

  • Current Medical card or ability to obtain one as requested

  • Minimum of five years of experience in electrical sign and lighting service

  • Completion of an approved electrical sign service training or equivalent program

  • Strong electrical and lighting aptitude and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy equipment (up to 75 lbs.)

  • Ability to work outdoors and at heights

  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
