We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Line Technician to join our Roseville electric utility team. In this critical role, you will help build, maintain, and repair the power distribution system that delivers reliable electrical service to our community.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and continuous learning. Journeyman applicants should possess proven experience working with overhead and underground high-voltage distribution systems and the ability to perform line work independently and as part of a crew.
We currently have one vacancy for a Journey Level Line Technician. This posting will be used to develop lists for future Pre-Apprentice and Apprentice Line Technician Classifications for the duration of the list. Testing will be limited, so not everyone who applies will be offered an opportunity to test.
These positions offer an excellent opportunity to build a rewarding career while supporting the delivery of essential services that power homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure. Whether you are an experienced Journey level or an aspiring Apprentice, you will play an important role in maintaining the safe and reliable operation of our electric distribution system.
KEY RECRUITMENT DATES:

Written and Power Pole Climbing Testing dates: September 30, 2026 and October 1, 2026

Minimum Qualifications
ELECTRIC PRE-APPRENTICE
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Experience:
One year of construction experience is desired. Electric utility experience is preferred.
AND
Training:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, GED, or higher level degree.
License and Certificate
Possession of a valid California driver's license by date of appointment.
Possession of a valid California class A driver's license within six (6) months of date of appointment.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, First Aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificates within six (6) months of date of appointment.
ELECTRIC APPRENTICE LINE TECHNICIAN
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Experience:
One year of experience in performing electric ground work on a line crew and completion of a two (2) week Pre-Apprentice school.
AND
Training:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, GED, or higher level degree, supplemented by enrollment in a recognized power line apprenticeship program.
License and Certificate
Possession of a valid California driver's license by date of appointment.
Possession of a valid California class A driver's license within six (6) months of date of appointment.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, First Aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificates within six (6) months of date of appointment.
ELECTRIC LINE TECHNICIAN
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Experience:
Three years experience performing duties similar to an Electric Apprentice Line Technician with the City of Roseville.
AND
Training:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, GED, or higher level degree, and completion of a recognized power line apprenticeship program.
License and Certificate
Possession of a valid California driver's license by date of appointment.
Possession of a valid California class A driver's license within six (6) months of date of appointment.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, First Aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificates within six (6) months of date of appointment.

SELECTION PROCESS:
All candidates meeting the minimum qualifications will have their application scored in a Formula Rate Examination. The applicant's experience and education will be evaluated using a pre-determined formula. Scores from this evaluation will determine applicant ranking and placement on the Employment List. Supplemental questions will be utilized by the department hiring authority to make interview and selection determinations.
Final appointment is contingent upon a check of past employment references, passing a City-paid fingerprint check, and depending on the position applied for, a pre-employment medical exam, drug and alcohol screening test, credit check, license and/or education verification, psychological examination, and/or an extensive Police Department background check process.
Some positions require the clearance of a comprehensive Police Department (PD) background check within 12 months of appointment. The City may appoint candidates to positions prior to clearing the extensive Police Department background check, and in those circumstances the candidate will be advised in advance that security access in the information technology systems will be limited to non-PD related systems until PD clearance is received, and if the candidate ultimately does not clear the PD background it will result in release from City service without appeal rights, in accordance with Personnel Rules 3.04.050.
