What is pre admission testing?

Pre Admission Testing (PAT) refers to the medical evaluations and tests that patients undergo before being admitted for surgery or certain medical procedures. These tests can include blood work, EKGs, chest X-rays, and a review of medical history to ensure the patient is fit for anesthesia and surgery. The goal is to identify and address any potential health risks to minimize complications during or after the procedure. PAT helps medical teams prepare personalized care plans and improves patient safety.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in pre admission testing?

Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs), laboratory information systems, and pre-surgical screening tools is essential. Strong attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to educate and reassure patients are crucial soft skills in this role.
