Description
In the absence of the regular classroom teacher, the substitute teacher helps students to learn subject matter and/or skills that are required for scheduled lessons and to provide meaningful instruction for assigned classrooms.
On call, Part-time
Essential Functions:
  • Reports to school office at beginning of school day to pick up required materials/schedule of classes and at the end of the school day to return materials. Follows sign out procedures as prescribed by the Principal.
  • Carries out a program of study prescribed in the lesson plans left by the classroom teacher.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conductive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives as indicated in the lesson plans for the lessons, units, or projects assigned.
  • Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting lesson objectives.
  • Takes attendance in accordance with school procedures.

Other Job Functions:
  • May perform duties usually required of absent teacher such as lunchroom duty, hall monitoring, etc.
  • Knows emergency evacuation routes for the classrooms assigned.
  • Knows procedures for referring students who are disciplinary problems.
  • Knows school procedures and regulations.
  • Maintains a neat and orderly classroom. Straightens chairs, tables, clears board, etc.
  • Performs other related duties as directed by the principal.
  • Indicates to students at the beginning of class the basic expectations for behavior in the class in accordance with school policies.

Spiritual Leadership Requirements
  • Teachers hold a ministerial role training and modeling children and families in spiritual tenants of the Christian Faith. Attitude, behavior, and character in and out of the classroom are essential.
  • Regular attendance and involvement in an Evangelical Church
  • Profession of personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior
  • Continuous growth in maturity through daily prayer, Bible reading, and witnessing
  • Lead a life of Godly example including Christ-like relationships, attitudes, and character in line with NCC core values and statement of faith.
Educational and Experience Requirements
  • High School Diploma
  • AA or BA preferred (in Education or related subject preferred)

Skill Requirements
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that demonstrate the ability to manage and teach children
  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken word
  • Excellent organizational skills.
