Job description

Description The Emergency Management Coordinator supports the City by preparing the community for emergencies through outreach, public education, and preparedness programming. The coordinator develops and shares materials that help residents understand how to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies. They assist in maintaining and updating the City's emergency operations plans, and help organize trainings, drills, and other preparedness activities.

The role also supports documentation and reporting requirements and works closely with the Emergency Manager and partner agencies to strengthen preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation efforts across the community. Ultimately, the Emergency Management Coordinator helps build a stronger, more resilient community-one that is informed, prepared, and ready to respond when emergencies arise. This is a part-time, temporary position.

The length of the assignment will vary depending on the pay offered and the hours the selected employee is able to work. Examples of the Work Performed Coordinates, plans, organizes, and attends community outreach events such as preparedness fairs, town halls, school visits, and workshops and emergency management activities across city divisions Assists in creating and distributing educational content and outreach materials (flyers, brochures, presentations, digital content, etc.) tailored to diverse community groups Assists in conducting public presentations and training on emergency preparedness topics (e.g., go-kits, evacuations, weather safety) Assists in developing and implementing social media campaigns and emergency notification programs to promote preparedness messages Assists in developing, reviewing, and maintaining emergency management plans (e.g., Emergency Operations Plan, Continuity of Operations Plan) Coordinates and supports emergency management training and exercises; assist with organizing and conducting drills for staff and the public Attends relevant meetings and training sessions to maintain awareness of emergency management best practices Applies knowledge of disaster response and recovery during emergency incidents Tracks and reports on community engagement activities and outreach efforts Assists with preparing reports, plans, resolutions, and other documentation Keeps the Emergency Manager informed of program activities and progress through written and oral updates Maintains emergency management databases and software systems (e.g., RAVE and future platforms) to ensure accurate information and operational readiness Safely operates a vehicle in the performance of business-related activities and assigned duties Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external stakeholders Perform related duties as assigned To review the full job description for this position, please click the following link: Class Specifications | Emergency Management Coordinator | Class Spec Details Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS One (1) year of college-level coursework in Emergency Management or a related field IS-100.c Introduction to the Incident Command System Certification Valid driver's license Any combination of relevant education and relevant experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING Certificate or associate's degree in Homeland Security Emergency Management, Public Administration, or a related field One (1) year of experience with Emergency Management Experience working for a government entity OTHER REQUIREMENT AND WORKING CONDITIONS Must possess, or obtain upon employment, a valid Arizona driver's license Must obtain certification in ICS 200, NIMS 700 and 800 within two (2) months of employment Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity Supplemental Information We are dedicated to fostering an inclusive and positive work environment.
