Job description

OVERVIEW

The Corporate Business Development Manager will work collaboratively with the Corporate BD team to develop, implement, and execute the Firm's corporate business development initiatives in conjunction with the Firm's attorneys, the various teams within the Business Development Department, and across the Firm, as appropriate.  Working hand-in-glove with the Senior Corporate BD Manager, the Corporate BD Manager will oversee work executed by the Corporate BD team, including reviewing and ensuring that work product generated by the Corporate BD team is commensurate with the standards of the Firm and completed in a timely manner.

RESPONSIBILITIES

New Business Opportunities and Research:

  • Oversees the creation and proofreading of bespoke pitch material in a timely manner, including strategizing on pitch content; ensures comprehensive and accurate record-keeping of pitch opportunities, materials, and pitch results;
  • Oversees the creation of research binders on current and prospective clients, competitors, and industry and market trends within the required deadlines, and ensures they are accurately logged in Foundation;
  • Responsible for the daily distribution of workflow to review and analyze news digests to identify BD Alerts for the appropriate partners on significant developments relevant to their current or prospective clients and potential new business opportunities;
  • Works with the Senior Corporate BD Manager and the Director of Corporate BD to adjust alerts to reflect new topics and practice areas, and in response to partner requests;
  • Supervises analysts and coordinators who are leading existing initiatives to ensure that the initiatives are being properly executed (e.g., review tracker updates, meetings, monthly reports, etc.); and
  • Collaborates with other senior members in the Business Development Department on cross-departmental requests and projects.

Business Development Databases:

  • Maintains the corporate content databases and pitch templates to ensure that all matter descriptions and BD content are up to date, accurate, and approved for both internal and external use;
  • Oversees the workflow for gathering, drafting, and receiving approval for matter descriptions, submitting to league tables, and updating corporate content with compelling language in BD materials (e.g., Firm overviews, practice area descriptions, attorney biographies, etc.);
  • Collaborates with the Knowledge Services team to ensure all BD-tracked information is accurate and updated in Foundation.

Operations:

  • Works closely with the Senior Corporate BD Manager to oversee and delegate all work performed by the Corporate BD Coordinators and Analysts, including strict quality control, in collaboration with the Litigation BD team on cross-departmental requests and general issues impacting both teams;
  • Supports the training and development of junior members of the Corporate BD team, including creating procedures manuals, mock pitch exercises, and BD knowledge tutorials;
  • Reviews timesheets, monitors the team's coverage to ensure "off-hour" requests are delegated and completed in a timely manner, and conducts individual and team meetings, as appropriate;
  • Drafts and conducts annual performance reviews, and identifies and collaborates with Human Resources to address personnel-related issues; and
  • Collaborates with IT, DPS, and the Creative Design Team on technological issues, such as troubleshooting printing or formatting issues.

Other:

  • Regularly strategizes and collaborates with the Senior Corporate BD Manager and the Director of Corporate BD, including on improving team processes and efficiencies; launching complex and long-term partner projects and initiatives; lateral partner integration efforts; new practice development efforts; and corporate sponsorships for the Corporate Department; and
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably with a focus in business or finance;
  • At least 6 years of marketing experience at a law firm or professional services firm, preferably with 2+ years in a leadership role;
  • Strong understanding of terminology and deal types associated with mergers and acquisitions, shareholder activism defense, banking and credit, capital markets, financial restructuring and reorganization, intellectual property, private equity, and venture capital;
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, including the ability to build and maintain a strong team environment, inspire confidence, and provide direction and oversight to junior team members;
  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively, excellent project management skills, and the ability to execute effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment while meeting time-sensitive deadlines;
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving capabilities, coupled with sound judgment and decision-making ability;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate directly with senior personnel at the Firm;
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to structure, manage, and maintain large volumes of data accurately and efficiently;
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook); preference for knowledge of iManage, Foundation, InterAction, PitchBook, Bloomberg, Mergermarket, Capital IQ, LSEG Data & Analytics, DealPointData, and Octus; and
  • Availability to work additional hours, as needed.

This position is located in our New York office, and currently has a hybrid work schedule, but that is subject to change. The estimated salary range for this position is $140,000 to $165,000. The actual salary offered will be based on a wide range of factors, including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and where applicable, licensure or certification obtained. Market and Firm factors are also considered. In addition to base salary and discretionary bonus(es), we offer a generous employee benefits package including, but not limited to, paid time off, medical, dental, vision care, 401(k) and substantial health club discounts.
