Job description

Under direct supervision of the Chief Executive Officer, this position is responsible for leading the Health Center’s organizational strategy efforts including development of the organization’s strategic plan and strategic alliances and providing organizational direction for key strategic initiatives. This position is also responsible for oversight of all fund development, advocacy, public relations and communication strategy and activities.

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and refine the organization’s overall strategy in collaboration with the CEO, Board of Directors and system leadership team.
  • Lead the strategic planning process, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and regional and community-specific needs.
  • Provide direction for key strategic initiatives, guiding teams to execute and deliver results and develop performance measures.
  • Regularly assess the organization’s strategic positioning and recommend adjustments to meet community needs as they evolve.
  • Attend monthly meetings of the Board of Directors, and lead discussions with the Board related to strategy, development, communications, grants and government affairs.

Strategic Alliances

    • Develop and lead the organization’s alliance strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and long-term goals.
    • Identify potential partners, negotiate partnership terms, and establish mutually beneficial relationships.
    • Provide direction for organizational advocacy efforts and cultivate policy related relationships.
    • Cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders and develop and nurture strategic partnerships and alliances that align with the organization’s strategic goals.

    Fund Development

    • Direct fund development activities and initiatives, developing goals and strategies.
    • Partner with CFO in overseeing grants processes and HRSA related reporting responsibilities and activities.
    • Maintain strong, transparent relationships with fund development partners.

    Marketing and Communications

    • Lead organization’s messaging, public relations strategies, and thought leadership to strengthen the organization’s visibility and community value.
    • Regularly serve as one of main media spokespersons for organization.

    Financial Management

    • Develop and/or participate in annual budgeting process.
    • Review monthly financial reports for respective departments.
    • Notify Finance of misclassified expenses based on review of financial reports.
    • Approve purchase orders and check requests.
    • Complete monthly credit card reconciliation if appropriate.
    • Maintain expenditures within budget.

    People Management

    • Manage performance of the team, conduct monthly meetups and provide real-time and consistent coaching with all direct reports.  
    • Ensure accountability of team, including but not limited to adherence with policies, procedures, guidelines, workflows, etc., addressing attendance, performance, and behavior concerns including corrective action if necessary.
    • Consult with Human Resources to support employee relations, performance achievement, training, employee engagement, etc.
    • Hold consistent and timely team meetings to communicate organization, site, and/or department information, changes, initiatives, etc.
    • Obtain leadership approval and manage all recruitment and hiring for team.
    • Effectively monitor onboarding of new hires, ensure on-going training and development for all staff.
    • Manage time off requests and approve timecards for direct reports or as delegated and monitor to ensure staff takes required breaks and lunches.

    Work Experience:  A minimum of seven years of experience in nonprofit healthcare-related setting required. Three years of experience with strategic planning, community needs assessment, fundraising, grant writing and reporting requirements required. Five years of people management experience required. 

    Education, certification and licensure:   Bachelor’s degree required; masters preferred; or equivalent education, training, and experience. Valid Oregon License required.

    Skills & Knowledge:  Excellent communications skills; Effective time and project management and organizational skills. Must be proficient using computer systems and related software, as well as various accounting software applications. Ability to work within a team setting. Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
