$2,250 per credit hour

Salary offers at Syracuse University will be based on education, experience, and relevant skills, as well as the academic or professional discipline of the position in the context of the home department, school, or college. Salary offers may also be influenced by prior relevant work or industry experience, where applicable. Faculty pay ranges are for 8.5 months' salary unless otherwise specified.

Job Description
The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University is seeking an individual to co-teach PRL 604 Theory and Practice of Public Relations on Mondays 10:00am-12:00pm and 1:00pm-3:00pm; Tuesdays 10:00am-12:00pm and 1:00pm-3:15pm and Wednesdays 9:00am-11:00am in the Summer Session II 2026 semester (3 credits).
Course Description: Students will learn key public relations theories and how they apply to the evolving practice of public relations in the 21st century. Students will also learn the strategic writing process, storytelling, media relations and pitching techniques, demonstrating professional writing skills using AP Style, planning and presentation skills.
This position is part of a bargaining unit and is represented by the union SEIU, Local 200United.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree required, preferably in the communications field or bachelor's degree with equivalent experience.
  • Qualified instructors will have a substantial background in public relations theory and writing and will be expected to grade a significant amount of writing assignments, with timely turnaround.
  • Excellent grammar, spelling, punctuation, and Associated Press (AP) Style skills are required.
  • Familiarity with news writing is also required.

It is understood that teaching assignments may include the following:
  • Developing a syllabus.
  • Ordering in advance books and materials for students in the class to purchase on or before the first day of classes.
  • Preparing for classes.
  • Holding office hours each week to meet with students in the class and others.
  • Grading in a timely manner student assignments and examinations for the course; and turning in mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to instruct the class on the days and times it is designated to meet.
  • Ability to hold office hours on campus.
  • Ability to grade all assignments and examinations.

Tools/Equipment
  • Ability to operate standard classroom instructional technology, which may include computer, projector, document camera, etc.
