Job description

The PR & Communications Coordinator will support consumer and corporate communications across the 1-800-Flowers.com enterprise, with a focus on 1-800-Flowers.com, Harry & David, and Personalization Mall. This role is integral to a lean, fast-moving communications team and requires someone who is equally comfortable pitching a lifestyle editor, managing influencer seeding, and supporting community engagement initiatives that bring our brands to life beyond the inbox.
Responsibilities
Media Relations
  • Support consumer PR efforts across the 1-800-Flowers.com enterprise, with dedicated focus on both the 1-800-Flowers.com and Harry & David brand voices and audiences
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with media contacts and influencers, including editors, journalists, producers, Substack writers, YouTubers, and food/lifestyle content creators
  • Proactively pitch stories, news briefs, and culturally relevant content to secure media coverage across consumer, food, gifting, and lifestyle verticals
  • Identify cultural moments and trending ideas for timely pitches across both brands - including food, harvest, and artisan gifting narratives aligned to Harry & David's positioning
  • Create, maintain, and update media lists using Muck Rack
  • Support team LinkedIn presence as needed

Press & Content Creation
  • Lead on building and maintaining media press sites/look books for key holidays and everyday gifting across brands (Squarespace platform; creative team support provided): 1800flowerslookbook.com
  • Develop Harry & David-specific press assets, seasonal lookbooks, and product storytelling materials that reflect the brand's premium, Pacific Northwest heritage
  • Collaborate with internal teams to gather information, data insights, and visual assets for content creation
  • Craft pitches, press releases, and LinkedIn posts for consumer and corporate announcements across all brands
  • Build and optimize press lookbooks for Pinterest, supporting trend narratives including Flower of the Year and Harry & David seasonal gifting stories
  • Draft and post news briefs and press releases to PR Newswire; maintain updates to corporate news site

Community Engagement
  • Support community engagement programming that extends brand presence into local and national communities - including partnerships with nonprofit organizations, cause-related campaigns, and community gifting initiatives
  • Help identify and support opportunities for both 1-800-Flowers.com and Harry & David to show up authentically in community contexts (local events, food bank partnerships, culinary community programs, etc.)
  • Assist in developing and tracking community engagement initiatives, including coordination with internal stakeholders and external partners
  • Support execution of brand activations, local market events, and community-facing moments that align with enterprise values and brand positioning
  • Help document and report on community programs for internal recaps and potential earned media coverage

Reporting & Analysis
  • Use Muck Rack, Cision, Google, and AI platforms (ChatGPT, Claude, Gamma) to monitor media coverage and conduct daily news sweeps
  • Prepare weekly media reports assessing the effectiveness of PR efforts across brands
  • Prepare regular coverage reports - including slides/presentations and recap emails - for key holidays and campaigns to evaluate impact of PR activities

Media Sample Ordering & Sample Closet
  • Place orders for media product samples across brands (including Harry & David food, gift, and specialty items), ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Track orders to ensure on-time delivery as promised
  • Respond promptly to sample requests and inquiries
  • Build and maintain a media sample closet in the Jericho office; a New York City location is ideal for media access
  • Spearhead and organize a product seeding program and database of top-tier media contacts and influencers for key holidays - Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Holiday, and harvest/fall gifting (a key moment for Harry & David)
  • Occasionally be on-site at the Long Island City facility to oversee floral arrangement design and seeding deliveries
  • Meet, deliver, and style product for national shows and top markets (New York) as needed

Additional Support
  • Set up new vendors; submit and process invoices
  • Manage team media subscriptions

  • 1-3 years of experience in PR, communications, or a related field (agency or in-house)
  • Strong writing skills - from punchy pitches to polished press releases
  • Genuine interest in gifting, food culture, lifestyle, and brand storytelling
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with multiple brand voices
  • Proficient (or eager to learn) Muck Rack, Cision, Squarespace, PR Newswire, and AI tools
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and follow-through
  • A team player who is also self-directed and proactive
  • New York area-based or able to work from our Jericho, NY office regularly; travel to Medford, OR

The expected hourly pay range for this position is $26.00 to $28.00 per hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, internal equity, and other factors permitted by law.
