We are currently seeking an experienced Roadway Engineer to join our team in our Raleigh, NC office. Responsibilities: The Roadway Engineer will be an integral member of our NC office’s Transportation–Highway team, managing projects commensurate with experience. This individual will contribute to: Design of roadway alignments Quality control/quality assurance of contract documents 3D surface models Feasibility studies and conceptual designs Preliminary design alternatives for NEPA/SEPA environmental documentation Cross sections Final design contract documents, including construction plans, specifications, special provisions, cost estimates, and technical reports The role also includes mentoring and training junior staff, work planning and production scheduling, growth visioning, and managing project budgets, scopes, schedules, and client relationships. The ideal candidate will be innovative and adaptive in identifying problems and developing solutions for transportation-related planning and design projects. Requirements: Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program 11–15 years of experience in roadway engineering (candidates with significant relevant experience but fewer years will also be considered) Professional Engineer (PE) license in North Carolina, or ability to obtain one via comity within 6 months of employment Experience with NCDOT Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, and/or CMGC projects Rural and urban roadway design experience, spanning full multi-modal local, secondary, and primary non-controlled facilities through fully controlled-access interstate corridors, including interchange design Proficiency with design software including MicroStation, InRoads, and GEOPAK Experience developing complete contract advertisement packages, including plans, engineer’s estimates, bid quantities, standard specifications, and special provisions Business development experience, including client communication and coordination Ability to develop and manage scope, man-hour and fee estimates, and schedules Experience mentoring, training, and managing staff Strong oral and written communication skills at all organizational levels Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multi-office teams Ability to lead and manage multiple projects, assignments, and teams Positive, cooperative attitude as both a team leader and team player Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) Preferred Requirements: OpenRoads Designer (ORD) experience or training Alternative delivery experience, including PPP and Progressive Design-Build procurement Design-Build experience in SC, GA, WV, and/or VA Project experience in VA, MD, WV, SC, GA, FL, TX, DE, and/or PA Experience in a General Engineering Services Consultant (GESC) role Construction-phase engineering services experience, including RFIs, schedules, pay request documentation and monitoring, and field verification of design Benefits: WRA recognizes that employees play an important role in its success.
