JOB SUMMARY
UT Southwestern is actively seeking an experienced and skilled HVAC Controls Technician, Building Automation Systems (Engineering Tech III) for our CDAS & Controls team. As a HVAC Controls Technician, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, calibrating, and adjusting electric, electronic, and pneumatic HVAC controls to maintain optimal temperature and humidity across campus buildings. Conducts troubleshooting of building HVAC system programming and oversees emergency management system (EMS) or related software.
We are looking for someone with the following skills and experience:
  • Block programming
  • Powers Process Control Language (PPCL)
  • Building Automation Software (BAS)
  • Energy Management Systems (EMS)
  • Experience with environmental control, and other automated systems such as Desigo PXC Controllers, BACnet Programmable TECs (PTECs), Siemens Apogee BAS.
  • Proficient problem solver who can apply their knowledge and experience in utilizing electronics, DDC, airflow, hydronics, refrigeration theory, pH sensors, flow meters, electrical meters and system control techniques.
  • Active certification as Master Operator, Master Programmer, Certified Automation Professional (CAP), or Employment Ready Building Automation Technician Certification.

Work Location: Dallas Campus; assist other UTSW locations as needed.
Shift Requirement: Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM with on-call (1 week) after training; 100% on-site/no remote work available.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required
  • Education
    High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience
    4 years of experience in HVAC DDC controls and related HVAC systems.
    Equivalent trade school training or combination of both.
  • Licenses and Certifications
    Maintains valid State of Texas drivers license Upon Hire

Preferred
  • Education
    Associate's Degree in electronic technology field or vocational school with completion of manufacturer's service course in repair and maintenance of temperature controls.

JOB DUTIES
  • Diagnoses, repairs, calibrates and makes adjustments to electric, electronic and pneumatic HVAC controls using tools of trade to ensure required temperatures and humidity to all campus buildings.
  • Knowledge of advanced programming in the Siemens Automation system to include complex lab controls, variable frequency drives, and integrated building HVAC systems.
  • Performs database management of HVAC field panels and controllers.
  • Installs DDC controls, programming, and graphics for renovations, upgrades, or system enhancement projects.
  • Troubleshoots programming of building HVAC systems.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
