Position Summary
BRIDGESTONE AMERICAS TIRE OPERATIONS, LLC (FIRESTONE) DES MOINES PLANT, one of the largest manufacturing corporations in Iowa, is currently seeking a certified and experienced factory maintenance Skilled Trade worker for an opening as a Powerhouse Boiler Operator.
Qualified candidates will be required to pass a technical interview with our Skilled Trades Committee. Starting wage of $40.92 / hour.
Teammates are required to work on a continuous operations schedule consisting of 12-hour shifts. The work week runs Sunday through Saturday. Applicants must be able to work either day shift or night shift. Day shift is from 6 A.M. to 6 P.M. Night shift is from 6 P.M. to 6 A.M. Teammates must be able to work a shift schedule with 48 hours one week and 36 hours the next week.
Shift schedule is subject to change.
Responsibilities

- Operates and maintains boilers, stationary engines and mechanical equipment, such as air compressors, generators, motors, turbines, feed water pumps, water softeners, reverse osmosis and filtration systems, cooling towers and heaters in the steam and water system.

- Observes meters and gauges to determine operating conditions of equipment and makes adjustments or repairs as necessary to insure efficient performance.

- Keeps clerical records, such as temperatures of equipment and hours of operation, fuel consumed and temperature and analysis of flue gases.

- Observes prescribed safety regulations pertaining to the use and care of the boilers and equipment.

- Changes Charts as assigned related to Powerhouse and Curing Services. Make startup and shutdown of Curing systems.

- Continue making inspection rounds, repair pumps in place, including coupling, un-coupling and pump/motor alignment. If possible, make pump replacement parts crib items, set pump thrust after startup.

- Repairs valves by repacking and replacement, Repairs and Replaces Piping and Gaskets on Main Utility Piping as assigned.

- Take samples, make tests, and services all steam and water chemical treatment systems in the powerhouse, plant and Warehouse.

- Transports equipment, tools and machinery to the job site as required to perform the required work.

- Performs simple electric or oxyacetylene welding and cutting and use other hand tools to fabricate or repair metal parts as required for efficient Powerhouse operations. Remove and replace guards or minor machine elements interfering with assigned work.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must be dependable, reliable, hardworking, self-motivated, and willing to learn. In addition, all applicants have the following requirements:

  • Must have 5 years of Boiler Operations experience

  • Must have a City of Des Moines 1st Class Engineers License OR take and pass the 1st Class Engineers License test within 90 days of hiring

  • Must have experience with operations/maintenance of steam and condensate systems, air compressors/air systems, and pumps/pumping systems

Experience in Electrical and Welding Skills are a plus.
