Job description

Position Overview
EnerNex is seeking an experienced Senior Power Systems Engineer to support and lead complex power system studies and consulting engagements for utilities, system operators, developers, and regulators. This role is intended for an experienced engineer who can independently execute technical work, provide sound engineering judgment, and serve as a trusted technical resource for both clients and internal teams.
The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on power system analysis experience, understands how technical decisions translate into real-world operational and business outcomes, and is comfortable representing EnerNex in client-facing technical discussions.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and execute advanced power system studies related to transmission and distribution systems, including steady-state, dynamic, transient, and power quality analyses.
  • Apply engineering judgment to evaluate system performance, identify risks, and develop practical, defensible recommendations for clients.
  • Serve as a technical point of contact on projects, supporting client discussions, explaining study results, and responding to technical questions with clarity and confidence.
  • Develop and review detailed engineering models using industry-standard tools (e.g., PSS®E, PSCAD, EMTP, PSLF, ASPEN, PowerFactory, OpenDSS), ensuring models are technically sound and aligned with project objectives.
  • Prepare high-quality technical reports and presentations that clearly communicate findings, implications, and recommended actions to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Support renewable and inverter-based resource integration efforts, including interconnection studies, compliance evaluations, and performance assessments.
  • Collaborate with project managers and senior staff to support scope definition, schedules, and technical approach for client engagements.
  • Provide technical mentorship and review support for junior engineers, helping maintain EnerNex's standards of quality and consistency.
  • Stay informed on evolving industry standards, utility practices, and regulatory requirements affecting power system planning and operations.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering (Power Systems focus preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience performing power system analysis or related engineering work.
  • Demonstrated experience with power system modeling and simulation tools commonly used in utility and interconnection studies.
  • Solid understanding of transmission and/or distribution system behavior, protection concepts, and power quality considerations.
  • Experience working with or supporting utilities, ISOs/RTOs, renewable developers, or regulatory entities.
  • Strong technical writing skills, with experience producing formal engineering reports suitable for external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a multi-disciplinary consulting team.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in electrical engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
  • Experience with renewable energy integration, inverter-based resources, or emerging grid technologies.
  • Familiarity with IEEE, NERC, or regional reliability standards and planning requirements.
  • Prior consulting experience or demonstrated client-facing technical responsibility.
Position could be in office or remote
