Job description

We’re looking for a Principal Power System Studies Engineer to join our T amp;D Engineering and Consulting team. This remote role is ideal for senior-level professionals with strong experience in power systems modeling and analysis. You’ll lead studies, mentor others, and contribute to the development of best-in-class engineering solutions for clients across North America.
What You’ll Do:
  • Lead complex studies in power flow, transient stability, short-circuit, electromagnetic transients (EMT), harmonics, and techno-economic areas for transmission, distribution, and generator applications
  • Develop and improve scripting processes to streamline modeling and study execution
  • Guide and support junior engineers, providing technical direction and ensuring deliverables are accurate, timely, and meet client requirements
  • Apply in-depth knowledge of industry standards, system operations, and equipment regulations to solve advanced modeling challenges
  • Manage sensitive technical and commercial information with high confidentiality and ensure compliance with all data agreements
  • Oversee project initiation and closeout processes, tracking scope, deliverables, and hours spent
  • Proactively identify risks related to timelines or budgets and escalate concerns in time for mitigation
  • Facilitate or attend meetings to align with stakeholders, troubleshoot project issues, and support planning efforts
  • Submit accurate and timely time entries to support project accounting and cost recognition
  • Communicate frequently with management about team needs, project goals, and any outstanding items
The Experience We’re Looking For:
  • 7–12 years of professional experience performing and leading power system studies
  • Proven experience managing and mentoring engineering teams
  • Advanced proficiency with industry-standard modeling tools (e.g., PSS/E, PSCAD, ASPEN, ETAP, PowerFactory)
  • Demonstrated ability to write high-quality reports and conduct technical presentations
  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills; fluent in English for both written and verbal communication
Additional Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent field experience
  • Must successfully complete a background check and pre-employment/random drug tests
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
  • Able to travel 25% or more, including periodic overnight stays
  • Must be flexible to work occasional overtime, weekends, or holidays based on project demands
  • Visa sponsorship available for qualified U.S.-based candidates
Bonus Points for:
  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent field experience
  • Engineer-in-Training status or PE license
  • Experience working with ISO/RTO study requirements or interconnection processes
  • Familiarity with scripting and automation in Python, MATLAB, or similar languages
  • Background in techno-economic analysis of power systems
  • Experience presenting to utility boards, regulatory bodies, or major industrial clients
