Role description:

Arcadis is currently seeking a highly motivated Principal System Planning and Studies Engineer to join the Power Delivery & Renewable team.   Arcadis' Power Delivery group partners with clients to provide comprehensive plans that incorporate all aspects of their projects. This is a senior Lead Technical position within the Power Delivery & Renewable unit of Arcadis. The position requires candidate directly interface with Arcadis power delivery team specially with System Planning and Studies Team with technical and project management assignments, project engineering, proposal management and business development. The candidate will also make sure day-to-day client engagement, project and proposal coordination, project execution, resource planning, and hands on technical solution role. The position is accountable to ensure project execution in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including all of Arcadis's policies and procedures, such as Safety, Environmental, Quality Assurance and Quality Control. The incumbent will also work closely with other Power Delivery departments, including the Project Engineering, Substation, Protection & Control Engineering, Transmission Engineering, Distribution Energy, and Renewables teams, as well as with other Arcadis business divisions and sectors.

The position consisting in the coordination of the Power Delivery & Renewables (PD&R) team and performing hands on all aspects of power system planning and studies for utility and developer clients in North America. The incumbent will also work closely with other renewable energy team (e.g. wind, solar, green H2, etc.) with Arcadis business units. As part of the Power Delivery & Renewable team, you will help improve quality of life. 

Role accountabilities:

  • Manage and grow System Planning & Studies team working with Power Delivery & Renewables Leader and Manager of System Planning and Studies group. You will also ensure resource planning and utilization of system planning and studies team on large/complex projects and perform quality reviews.
  • Perform and coordinate HVAC and HVDC power systems analysis activities including load-flow, short-circuit, transient stability, electromagnetic transient, small-signal stability analysis, reliability analysis, interconnection studies, system impact studies, etc.
  • Lead/oversee the continuous development of enhanced power system planning & studies processes, methodologies and tools for quality and efficiencies, and for ensuring being at the forefront of technical expertise and innovation in the industry.   
  • Act as Project Manager, Proposal Manager, Program Manager, Account Manager and Technical Lead to support services and plan, develop, and grow power delivery clients goal and business growth for the region
  • Serve as a mentor to junior members of the team. Conduct quality assurance/quality control on the work of other system planning engineers. Participate in meetings with clients, contractors, and vendors to support business development and project execution. 
  • Work with Power Delivery & Renewables (PD&R) Leader to develop plans to client development, account growth, department growth, resource planning, winning and execution strategy, quality control improvement, and all project financial performance to meet PD&R team success.    

We are seeking an individual with a strong team player mindset and excellent communication skills to join our team. In this role, you will have the opportunity to collaborate effectively with colleagues.  Additionally, this position may involve travel of up to 20% to client sites and customer meetings, both within North America and potentially internationally.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required 

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering 
  • Minimum  of 12 years of relevant experience in Power System Planning and Studies and experienced with key North American US Market Operators (i.e. MISO, PJM, NE-ISO, NY-ISO, ERCOT, CAISO, SPP) policies, guidelines, regulations, rules, requirements and criteria as applicable to grid interconnection, performance and planning, testing, especially related to bulk power systems.
  • Experience in leading and/or performing planning/feasibility studies, interconnection studies, transient studies and systems analysis investigations for utility and developer clients in North America
  • Must be proficient with PSCAD and the PSSE software package, including all modules for load-flow, short-circuit and transient stability analysis. Additionally, familiar with alternative planning software applications, including TARA, PSLF, DigSILENT, or DSA Tools.
  • PE License certification is required.

Preferred

  • Ph.D. degree in Power Systems (Strongly Preferred) 
  • HVDC experience

Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
